So, can I use the hot lead that went to my coil, to fire my new HEI distributor?

Or do I need a new thicker gauge hot lead from my fuse box?

Anything else that would help also. Replaced 74' distributor on 318

Your coil wire is fine without a ballast resister it needs 12 Volts

Run the 12v feed from the ignition to switch a relay. Use battery voltage through the relay to feed the HEI

So, you are saying grab the 12 V "before" the ballast resistor, and use that? How many of those wired gadgets on the fire wall can I obsolete? Ceramic block? heat sink with a transistor on it? Which one is the ballast and which side does the 12 V feed from?

Will the "battery" or "accessories" circuits on my fuse box suffice? Would I still need a relay? Or, which leg do I tap on the ignition? Run or start? Thanks for your replies!

Run and start you tie together. By running battery voltage through a relay you dont get a voltage drop like you do running through the key switch
