I told you about the '70 GTO ex drag car we bought for cheap. It had a big round hole cut in the hood for the air cleaner then a fiberglass scoop bolted to the top. We are going to paint it hot Rod Black so I thought it deserved a brand new hood. Shopped and shopped. About the best was Summit with free shipping. Later found out there was a $99 Freight charge. Okay...bought AMD since I thought they were the best.

The first hood arrived after 8 days. Big hole in the box. Big gouge in the hood. 10 days later another hood. Not as bad but a wrinkle in the driver's front. 10 days later another hood. The passengers rear corner was turned down. I called to report it and they are mad at me! They say this next hood is the last one they will send me. Either AMD, Summit or UPS has some big problems but I'm the one stuck waiting and waiting.

Yeah, what's wrong with you, not wanting to accept a broken or damaged part ? Hah ? Seriously, if anyone should be mad, it's you !

Summit has been outstanding for me for customer service.
They can't possibly blame you for shipping damage! Have you properly documented the damage each time?
Maybe go pick it up from the distribution center for your shipper?

They should change carriers. No reason for someone to have to be shipped 4 hoods just to get one good one

I have never. I repeat never received a hood shipped freight and it's not been damaged. Just sucks. I feel your pain. Hoods I buy local. I pay extra to look before a buy. And trust me. I'm so nervous because I also maybe forced to have my roadrunner hood shipped to me. Or drive to Georgia and pick it from AMD my self.

I have had to return wheels and tires mounted and balanced by Summit a few times without issue. Bad run of rims and a bulged tire. They even paid me to get it re mounted and balanced here.

I had a fiberglass hood come freight a few weeks ago and beside some scuffing from rubbing the box it was in perfect shape.

I hope you get this worked out.

Stephen's Performance was who I bought my N96 AMD hood from and since they are a vendor/sponsor for my car club's annual Mopars at the Lake, Ted brought it with him and I picked it up in person. The car show is about 50 minutes away from my house. :)

I bought AMD.I used small supplier off there website in the sticks in MT.The Guy was great. No bent panels or even wrecked boxes. He picks his shippers and it cost $250 extra.Worth every penny. I got lucky too.Summits great but for panels a smaller vendor with higher shipping charge worked better.

Ups,fedx, usps, dhl, etc are all in the business of transportation of goods it shouldn't be expecting to much to have these goods delivered undamaged. Just my 4 cents worth...inflation and all

Summit has always been great to me, once it leaves their store or AMD's it's out of their hands but they should still treat you with respect. Sounds like they need to have a talk with UPS on the next one!

Unfair for venders to have the materials damaged in transit just adds to the cost of business. Wife sent packages to here mom in West Palm beach and it wound up being routed to Guam then to New York then to ohio then to Florida hows that happen people asleep at the switch.

I really think it's important to make UPS take the order back, or simply not accept a damaged package. It's in their hands, not yours.
Track the package and have someone waiting to inspect it if you can so it's thier problem, not yours.
UPS has left 3000 rounds of ammo on my front porch! They just want to get-er-done!

Having worked as a manager at a UPS retail store, my recommendation would be to have the hood held at the local distribution center for pick up. You can call the local center and ask how to have it held as it may vary between locations.
When you go there, inspect the box and if it is damaged in any way, ask to open and inspect the hood. If it is damaged, you can refuse delivery due to shipping damage. It is the merchant and UPS's problem at that time.

Hope this helps.
Jeff

Your lucky Summit is a great company to deal with. I've never had a problem with them. One of the more conciensious (sp) companies out there. If they wanted to be a prick they would have told you to file a claim with the shipper. On large or heavy items if it is not packaged according to the shippers standard from the supplier they would have told you to go pound salt. Ask me how I know.

Why doesn't AMD crate them so they can make it OK? I ordered some tube heaters, the reflectors came 10 in a box along with the steel 4" tubes, 10 of those also. A card board box 10' long 2' wide and 12' tall, they were heavy. Some how the factory expected one truck driver to handle these things, moving them around all day to get other fraight out. With out damaging them. Well as you can expect the stapled together box was toast and the reflectors were bent to hell. They think a cardboard box is going to make it across the U.S. really!

Shipping a hood in a cardboard box seems silly to me. May as well just stick the shipping label on the hood and send it by bus.
At least the handlers can see what they are tossing around.

I ordered a quarter panel from Summit one time because it said free shipping...well they sent me the wrong side. I got asked on the phone if I knew what side was the right side of the car when I called them to tell them they sent wrong one. I asked if he did!!! They sent me the correct one but as the call went the dude said "Oh...you got a deal on the shipping, should of cost you $100 bucks since it was freight shipping due to the size" they did not charge me the shipping on the new one they sent either...WIN..WIN..!!
