1971 Roadrunner 383 HD Cooling Option Questions

Was there a HD cooling option available on a non-A/C 71 Roadrunner with a 383 and 22-inch radiator? Would the HD cooling option have included a fan shroud and clutch fan? I have a standard cooling system (no shroud) and 7 blade fixed fan and if I add a repro shroud does the fan spacer need to be change (part no?) or do I need to find the correct fan clutch (part no.)? Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

I'll look thru my option book but others will chime in. If it had a heavy duty cooling that will be the 26" radiator. You can add the fan shroud and clutch fan. The clutch and fan will be the same as spacer and fan, does that make sense. Remove spacer, replace with clutch.

So it sounds like a fan shroud and clutch fan were never offered by the factory on a 22 inch B-body radiator...is that correct? I suppose the shroud parts that folks are using came from A-bodies.

22" shroud is different between A body and B/E body.
B/E is kind of hard to find .

I got a fan shroud from MegaParts for a 22" (OEM) radiator . The mounts where extra. Not cheap, but well worth the price............ for me at least.

22 "Radiator - Standard Cooling - No Air - No Performance Axle

3443938 is the correct service replacement number for core stamped numbers 3443961 & 3443962 (71 B & E body 22" 383 - no air).

If you have a broadcast sheet, look at line 3 (green line) under "RAD"... if it says 61 then your car came with 3443961; 62 would call for the 3443962. 61 Auto 62 Manual

My 71 Bee is a 383 Auto with no air - Standard Sure Grip 3:23 Gear 489 Pumpkin and it came with Radiator 3443961

Your correct fan shroud should bee part # 2998328

Radiators are very hard to come by

Fan Shroud Brackets are reproduced

Yes on the factory 7 blade fixed fan with this radiator , no fan clutch

A radiator guy told me that all 71 Roadrunners with a 383 and 22 inch radiator should have come equipped with a fan shroud. Is that correct?

I can't speak for the '71's, but the '69 (383's) came with a 22" radiator and no fan shroud. Only the A/C cars and those with MAX Cooling package got the shroud and I believe those where Satellites & Belvederes. I don't think A/C was an option on the Road Runners, at least not in '69.
