Hey Guys, my 1970 Satellite Convertible project came without the top switch on the dash, amongst other things. Can someone send me a picture of what this area is supposed to look like ? I've got plenty of pictures for 68/69, but they are different.

thanks
Chris

Hey Chris, can you get pictures on your phone? Send me a private message with your phone number and I will take a picture and send it to you from my phone. I have a 70 Roadrunner convertible. It's a black toggle switch that says "top" on it, two screw hold it in. Here's a few other things that might help you.
1. I just saw reproduction wiring available for the convertible switch from Megaparts.
2. I've "heard" that the switch is identical to the power rear window switch for station wagons & the black plastic switch itself just needs to be turned around (says rear window on one side & top on the other side). I've never confirmed this, but I guess I can look while I'm taking the picture.

PM sent.

1) According to the MPC the conv top switch (2864489) is the same switch as the rear window switch on station wagons as you suspected.
2) I just found a rear defrost switch on ebay. The switch is the wrong one, but the bracket is the same (I need picture to confirm) and the knob reads "P Wind" on one side and "Top" on the other. Looks like that knob had a lot of uses.

Hey Chris, what are you trying to accomplish with this? Your left two pictures look correct for a 70 Satellite convertible top switch. I don't think you can use a rear defogger switch since if you pushed it to "on" it would stay there....like a rear window defogger, it would stay on for a few minutes, which might burn out your convertible top motor.

IF you've found the top switch itself & just need the black metal bracket, I (personally) would be inclined to just make one from hardware store sheet metal. Even if it didn't turn out "perfect", it's up underneath the dash & you really can't see it....just sayin'....it's gotta cost a small fortune to buy a switch just to get the bezel (I've done it, but $$$)

When I posted the message on this forum I didn't know what the correct parts looked like. I have the David Wise books for B-body and he doesn't show the correct parts.

I found the defroster switch and bracket in the picture I posted on ebay. I took a chance and bought it so that I would have the bracket and the knob. I don't plan on using the defroster switch for the reasons you stated. I've got a couple years before I need the switch so I have a while to hunt for one. The cheapest I've found is $175.

It would be nice to see a picture of the correct part in place with the correct hardware so that I know that it is correct.

I have a 70 Satty convertible. I will take pics and post tonight when I get home from work.

Here are pics of the switch from my 70 Satty . As you can see the back of the switch says R Wind. Hope these help.
