'65 Coronet on the chassis dyno

Got my '65 on the dyno the other day so I could test the new Holley Super Sniper fuel injection setup. The Sniper really runs great on my car so I thought I'd see what kind of power it makes. Ended up at 485 hp at the rear wheels and 525 ft-lbs of torque.

 
BadAss car foresure ! calculating about 20% drive train loss, your at or about 582 to the crank ? did you dyno the engine prier to installing it ?
 
We did dyno the engine but it has been a long time and I've made some changes. I think the engine made around 575 hp on the dyno but that was with headers. I run cast iron manifolds in the car. The engine is a 512 with a hyd roller cam. It pulls hard up past 6000 rpm but once you get above 6500 rpm the hyd rollers start to get a little unstable. I think we pulled it to 6800 rpm in the video. It sounded great and made good power but when I look at the data logs I could see that the engine was a little unhappy past 6500 rpm. The lines on the data logger started to get a little jaggy up there.

Man that thing is cool, really like those headpipes. Always liked the look of cast iron manifolds on big block mopars. Who did your pipes man thats cool.
 
Andy what block are you using ? I see what looks like cross bolting ?

Factory 400 block that has been converted to 440 main bearing size and fitted with cross bolted main caps. (A lot of work by the way!)

Local fab guy welded up the pipes for me from a box of mandrel bends.

What heads are on the engine
Mopar 452 aluminum heads. (Edelbrock straight plug sold by Mopar Performance)

Heads were CNC ported by Modern Cylinder Heads but they are still standard port size. Trick Flow intake, Crane hyd roller is 246 @ 050, pump gas compression. Engine has 4.25 stroke crank. There are some engine details and pictures in the Mopar big block book that I wrote.
 
Love the custom machine work on the block! Could you post your dyno sheet? I'm going to be building a 512 from a 400 this winter. Did your power peak down in the 5500rpm range?
 
The dyno info is in some weird format that I'm having trouble with so no dyno sheet at the moment. But the power curve is pretty flat. We started the pull around 3000 rpm and I ran it out to 6800. Peak power was at 5300 rpm (125 mph). But it still had 468 hp at 6000 rpm (140 mph) so it held on pretty well. Power started dropping after 6500 probably due to the hyd roller lifters. Not sure on that, could've been the ignition system breaking up also. It sounded good on the dyno but when we look at the data logger we see that that the RPM trace gets jiggy after 6500 rpm.
 
I'm still amazed how these big cube wedge engines eat up duration! I'm looking at a 252 258 at .50 and I'm sure it will be making max power in the same mid 5000rpm range. If the cam was in a small block it would be in the mid to high 6000rpm.

I think you are spot on with the assumption that the hydrolic cam was running out of steam after 6500rpm as well. With the work you have done to your block you could go solid and spin her up! I'm sticking with all the stock stuff on my block (I might possibly spend the extra and go studs on the crank?) but I won't be spinning over six with my setup.
