LED Garage / Shop Lights?

We went with the 4' T5's, I installed 6 in our 40x60x14 shop and am thoroughly impressed.

I'm using LEDs for another project- providing light to the lower level of my train layout.

I'm using 700-800 lumens on 24" fixtures. The below 600 lumen fixtures didn't cut it.

I also have LED motion sensor lights on my shop.

They work surprisingly well. 900 lumens IIRC.

I have (8) 8' fluorescent fixtures in my little ole 2 car garage. They light it up nice & bright for now. As they fail I suppose I will replace them with LED's as time goes on.

I now have 16 4 foot fixtures in my 2 1/2 car. 4 of the fixtures LEDs from Costco that I got for Christmas from my son. I think that I need to go to 20 fixtures and the new ones will be LED. As the old ones die I will replace with LED. I just replace all the old bulbs so I have some time but the old tomb stones are starting to give up the ghost. It's hard to replace them all at once when the GTX build is saying feed me.

I like to mix it up. LED, halogen and florescent. All have their own shut off so I can choose depending on the job and the temperature.

Have an opportunity to change out my Devilbiss spray booth lights from florescent (2x4) to LED. Nephew is a lighting guy, and stores his Chevelle here during the winter months. He called the other day, and stated he had almost collected all of the supplies required, he trades off lighting improvements in lieu of storage fee's. My question is, anyone here using LED's in a spray booth?
Does LED affect colour, like florescent lights do?

put 3 LED's in my little 2 bay this weekend, made all the difference when it came time to work on the car. 30$ each at Lowes...well worth the money

I did not understand the reference to Fluorescents being better for detail work. I know that my face looks red and splotchy under those lights as opposed to incandescent or natural sunlight. Do the fluorescents highlight flaws more in general?
I like the fluorescents for detailing cars and I can tell you the LED isn't going to work for detailing paint.

Lighting can effect what you can see on surfaces. Work in a rolling mill where we produced bronze strip at 25" wide and down to .003 thick. On the rolling mill you were suppose to check on the final pass (rolling to finish gauge) you had to check for roll marks, small defects in rolls. They had halogen lights very difficult to see defects too bright. The machine I operated had high energy fluorescent lights could see missed defects easily. Occasionally I'd send samples of a defect to the QC lab. They called me and where the defect was, we can't see it? They came to where I worked and I show them the defect, oh ya. They went to lab and couldn't see the defect? They had different fluorescent lights.

In my experience yes for detailing anyway. Not sure about skin. You can put paint under almost any light and call it good. Pull it in the garage and put it under fluorescents and you'll see things you missed when you walk the panel in that light.

Since this thread started I've seen some LEDs that might work but have not installed any or worked on any cars under them yet.

How are the leds holding up to shock and vibration?
I do like the fact that heat generation is minimal.
Was given an led head lamp last week. I find myself not even turning the shop lights on.

The LED screw in replacements for incandescents are great. You can drop them and they don't fail.
