Value Of A 1967 GTX Clone

Not sure what the feeling is on 67 GTX clones with regard to value. Hagerty puts a Belvedere II 2DR HT 383/335 at $17,800, a Satellite 2DR HT 383/335 at $18,500 and a real GTX at $34,900. All three prices in #3 fair condition as per Hagerty's condition descriptions.

Does conversion of a Belvedere II or Satellite to a GTX clone by addition of a 440 engine, hood scoops, emblems, interior, trunk panel, taillight bezels and speedometer add value to the car or reduce value from the value of an original car. If it adds value, how much does it close that $17,100 to $16,400 gap between the starting car and a real GTX, condition being the same?

I am assuming most clones start as big block cars and are not derived from original six cylinder and small block V8 cars. Not sure if most clones include any suspension and brake upgrades or usually just the obvious parts.
 
If it done from a original big block car that would hurt the value of the car. Done on a six or 318 car may increase the value if it was cloned correctly. But you just never know when you go to sell it....you just need the right person to fall in love with it.
 
In a personal sale, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. To a collector, I don't believe it's worth anymore just by adding performance parts and badges. Just my opinion.
 
Most times it will be worth what it started life as. Thats all i would pay. If you can get much over 15k you are doing pretty good on a 67 Satellite/Belvedere. A little more if a 4spd car.

A clone is a clone. Bruce Jenner is still a guy no matter what he spends to look otherwise.....
 
Here is an article I found on this subject. It indicates that some common clones are worth 25 to 50% of the real deal. The more expensive the real deal, it seems the lower the percentage of a clone. Considering the real deal 67 GTX is not an extreme high dollar car, I would think the 50% may be accurate, and would put the value close to the original car, providing it was an original big block.

I recently saw an immaculate original white 67 Belvedere 2DR HT for sale with a slant 6 and a big block K member included. The car was so original and immaculate it seemed way too sweet to try to make it something it was not.

I have been watching the 67 GTX market as i would like to add a good driver quality 4 spd car to my collection in the future. These are just the obsevations i have seen between the Sat/Bel and the real GTX. Not knocking anyones car (i dont intend to ever do that) but it doesnt make any sense to spend all the extra money to build a clone. Be proud of what you have!
 
I bought a '67 Belvedere ll with a 273 and auto trans to clone. Had a GTX way back that I wrecked, but stripped it and kept everything GTX specific. So this car has ALL the right stuff (except torsion bars, wanted drag race advantage of small block bars) although not because I'm trying to fool anybody (hell, I still have the VIN plate off the old car if I was one of those guys) but just because I had it and it made the car better. Car is done my way tho, old race car look : lexan windows, fiberglass hood with scoop, long wheel studs, 440 - 4 speed, fiberglass buckets, etc. Insured with Hagerty for $15k, but think I am going to up it when new premium is due.

You can add things to improve drivability such as 4 wheel disc brakes or 5 speed transmissions or better interiors w/o damaging the overall value.
Still a Satellite will always be a Satellite and Coronet a Coronet regardless.
I can't see either ever being worth more than 18k no matter how lovely or expertly "cloned." Probably more like 15k

Or a Hemi tribute. Hell, the motor alone is worth $18,000
 
I think you can add the value (not the retail parts cost) of the big block engine build.

...and maybe the value of the GTX specific parts.

Of course the true value is dependent on the starting condition of the car and the quality of the work done.
