Newbie... uneducated guess is a lower control arm bushing ( pic is driver side near the lower rad hose connection) however please confirm/correct. Reason for asking is it appears to be loose causing the rubber portion to deteriorate rapidly. Wondering if the car is safe to drive to the repair shop or will require a tow.

Thanks to all whom respond.

Driving to the repair shop won't be a problem if it's relatively close. Nothing is going to fall off. As said above, it's the strut rod bushing. That rod keeps the lower control arm front/rear alignment in check.

Based upon the condition of that one rubber bushing, it's a good bet that all of the suspension bushings are shot. You should look into replacing them all at some point. The other suspension parts should also be looked at......ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm, etc.

And if your going to do bushings you may want to consider a few other upgrades

The pin is seldom still installed. Likely never been apart. Every restoration I have seen at shows is missing these.

Thanks all for the quick responses. A new strut rod bushing kit has been sourced. FYI, the car has had new lower/upper balljoints and lower/upper control arm bushings replaced recently... suggestion was put forth to have other upgrades done- open to your feedback at what else should be done while doing the bushings.
Thanks,

Ian

Let's go to steering. How's the box ? Idler arm & tie rods ? Go a little north, how's the steering column coupling ?

Steering is typical late 60/70s ... lots of play etc. The car does need a wheel alignment ( recent new disc brake install plus aforementioned front end work plus bilstein shocks). I’m uncertain as to the condition of the idler arm or tie rods ( though no mention of any issues when previous suspension components were installed). A new power steering box (firm feel 2 or borgenson) is in the plans as well as some 15” magnum 500s plus tires.

P.s.no idea about steering column coupler either
