Hey guys,

After being out of the game for a few years I'm back and I found me a very special project and a parts car that I need to arrange shipping for from Idaho to Texas.

I've never had a vehicle shipped before but between my move and divorce... driving up to go get them would be tough. I've long distance towed before with a 16' car hauler but it was at times a bit hairy and I've never to done it with winter approaching. Me and my co-driver on the last trip had such a problem with curious onlookers with attempted sticky fingers that we drove straight from Wisconsin to Texas and actually had to guard the trailer when we ate.

So I'm looking to people who have successfully had cars transported for advice and guidance, I'd love to know who you used, if you ran into any problems, and what the cost per loaded mile was...

I'd prefer direct enclosed shipping but would entertain others... not necessarily looking for the cheapest rock bottom price... just looking for somebody who charges the normal rates and will get the cars here without damage and "missing" parts.

Thank you in advance.

With non running rollers, there is a labor fee to winch onto trailer.Unless you find someone on the transportation thread you have to shop around and find how they guarantee delivery time, are they insured, will this all be written on the ship order before they load it.................

Don’t use a broker, use an owner operator company. Because you sign a contract with the broker and if the trucker damages it you have to go after his insurance and it’s a PIA.

Non operating vehicles are a real problem to get moved if that's what yours are. Try to find a small 1 or 2 owner outfit, NOT A BROKER. This could take awhile, but they are out there. Ask all your car buddies if they know of anyone, or even post up on here. I believe there is a thread for hauling stuff on this site.
Guess why I am up at this hour of night? Talked my wife into driving 10.5 hours each way to pick up a non op car lol. We are hoping to be back home by 1-2 am Friday - its going to be a loooong day.

:popcorn2:I will be watching this thread, as I will be in the same boat before too awful long ( I hope). My Charger is being built up in Minnesota and will have to be brought home. I could load it on a trailer and trailer it home like I brought it up there, but depending on time of year it gets finished, that may not be a fun option. I'd will not haul my newly completed car home on an open trailer with wet, snowy, salty roads, even if I do run straight through!!

I used Reliabe Transport to ship my car from NJ to NC when we moved. A first class operation, I couldn't have asked for better. Being an Owner Operator, I know what to look for in a trucking company. They are the best of the best.

Thank you to all that have replied,

Can somebody tell what they have approximately paid per mile for open and enclosed transport?

And were you charged for just loaded miles or unloaded miles as well?

Thanks again

Well....

Reliable and Intercity Lines were both busts.... neither will do the job.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

Thanks

Reliable said it wasn't in their normal route....

I'm very wary of U-ship... I tried to use them once in the past. Was trying to get some parts shipped cross country and the shipper flaked at the last minute and totally screwed me over... had to scramble to find another way to ship... its how I discovered "Fastenal"....

I know from being an owner/operator, Idaho isn't a very well traveled lane for freight. I wish you luck. Please keep us updated.

I have bought 6 cars sight unseen in the last 10 years and had them shipped, never had a problem with the cars or the trucks. Used Reliable twice (these cars were from West Coast to Florida). Used Exotic Auto (out of Orlando) another 2 times. Also used a broker (brother in law of my good friend in FL) 3 times, he was absolutely the best, no bullshit, he was up front with everything....I shipped my Avalanche and 65 Coronet race car together as one shipment, from Fort Myers FL to Arizona, shipped my Dodge diesel dually from Fort Myers to Arizona, shipped my 64 Savoy wagon from North Dakota to Fort Myers. All handled by this broker without any delays or BS or any problems. If you want his contact number, message me.
