My wife has had it with the smell!

You have a fuel leak.

My 440 six pack and even dual Dominator Hemi cars are both in my attached garage with no major fume issues. Ocassionally, I can smell some fumes as I go down into the basement if the cars were running recently. My basement steps are just inside the side entry garage door. We weld, grind, paint & even have painted cars in my garage. When we do more than just painting of small parts then the house does start to smell like paint fumes after a while. I put a window fan at the back man door & another one out the front big door & it airs out quickly.

1 or 2 large fans in front of the car will blow the fumes outta the garage.I havn't had a six pack car in 30 years!
Before I redid my exhaust and installed tailpipes,my wife would greet e at the door to get undressed and put all the clothes in a bag from the exhaust fumes that got in the car!
Now I rent a building 10 miles away and have a man cave where the guys come and hang out:thumbsup:

Strange, my wife loves the smell of these exhaust fumes, need to kick her out and tell her that it is not really healthy.
"I know, but I love that smell" :realcrazy::realcrazy:

A born petrol head!

Thankfully my wife is a fan of all things automotive as well. This past weekend she had a choice to go to either the St Pete Grand Prix or the NMCA Nationals in Bradenton. She chose Bradenton! Plus she got to meet and have her picture taken with her girl crush...Leah Pritchett.

Lucky man.

You wouldn't happen to be running braided fuel line and AN fittings, would you?

If yes,
You 100% have to run Teflon braided line. I had this problem with my '71 GTX, becasue I was using summit braided hose, which is vapor permeable. Smelled like fuel for days. Switched to teflon, no more smell.

If no,
check your soft fuel lines for cracks. Just because fuel isn't leaking doesn't mean it's not getting out.

They'll always be a slight smell, but you shouldn't be driven out of the house. The fuel tank is vented to atmosphere, and so are all three carbs. So it will smell to an extent, and compared to a modern car, maybe a lot more. But it should dissipate once the carb levels go down and things cool off. So check for leaks or you can either use a small window fan (assuming you have a window) or rig up a bathroom exhaust type fan through the wall to keep a very slight lower pressure in the garage and vent the fumes outside.

Is it a fuel smell or isn't it? .

This.

Reading the OP's comments in this thread it is not particularly clear if the problem is raw gas fumes, or residual exhaust fume. If I were guessing, I would say the latter, mostly because it is what I usually see. Especially in 6 pack cars. Could be both as well.

To the OP, can you be more clear on the smell? Can you smell it when idling around, or in stop and go situations? Does your clothes and hair pick you the odor?

If you are uncertain, maybe after a drive, pull up to your garage, turn off the car right away, open the hood, doors and trunk to air it out for 10 minutes, then open the garage door and push the car in.

When I bought my Barracuda, it too left a gas smell in the garage. I knew that I must have a leak somewhere, but there were no drips unless I filled the tank up all the way. Figured there was a leak in the tank. I ordered a new tank and sender, and installed them. Checking the old tank, I saw a crack in the top area that would never have been found without yanking the tank out. GL!

Mine is a 440 6-pack and I have a fuel smell problem as well, but its not the carbs. My fuel tank is definitely leaking anytime I put more than 10 gallons in it. Likely is rusted on the top of the tank. However, if you didn't have the problem before taking it in to get tuned but now you do, it wouldn't be the tank. Did you have the smell problem before taking it in to get tuned?

Very common with stock fuel tanks for the pickup in the top or the rubber hoses going to it having leakage.
