Thought I'd share. ..I have ZERO affiliation with this company.
After lots and lots of grief trying to stop my power steering leak....I finally decided to try a snake oil...out of desperation.

I read and read about different products and choose BlueDevil based on reviews and how it works.
It goes after the rubber seals and causes them to swell.

$4.88 on Amazon

I had a significant leak....100% GONE. ZIP, ZERO, NADA. Within one hour of using this stuff.

It's been several days now.....zero leaks.

Will it fix a giant hole in a hose....nope.
But I was blown away how well and fast this cured my leak 100%

Friend of mine has a beater olds alero. The blue devil product for transmissions cured his leak in about 200 miles of driving, and it's been leak free for the past two years.

My biggest concern with these products has been what else is it sealing. Apparently this one only attaches to rubber?

No ill effects so far....and yes, it targets the rubber seals.
Kinda brilliant idea actually.

In general, these type of "seal swell" products contain chemicals which are slightly incompatible with rubber & make it swell. It doesn't really "stick" to anything, it is absorbed by the rubber seals.

Now, if the seals are just worn on the I.D. from wear or have a tiny little nick in them, these types of products will swell the seal & seal the leak....makes sense. As mentioned, it's not like a radiator stop-leak that will actually plug a hole of any size. fyi-transmission stop leak uses the same type of chemicals too. This stuff is actually attacking the rubber a little bit & likely accelerates wear on the seals....but if they're leaking already, why not? Obviously the solution is to rebuild/replace the pump, but we've all been in the situation before where we didn't have the time/money at that moment.

Also, I've found several of the Red Devil products to be effective & cleverly formulated. Their head gasket sealer is the best on the market. I like their products.

How many of these type of products are actually based on old school brake fluid? ...... we pulled lots of tricks with that stuff years ago

Most of them.....pthalate esters are "seal swell" chemicals + pthalate esters are often used in DOT3 brake fluid....not necessarily the exact same phthalate esters, but similar chemicals.
