Made a simple valve spring compressor from a part off of a hand held compressor tool, and a large C Clamp. Total cost $25. It works Great! And is much easier to use than the hand held one. A few pics.

Just take the little clip off the hand held unit, and take off the spring compressor end. Put it right on the valve retainer, and Use a giant C Clamp between that and the valve face. I used an 8 inch clamp. Surprised me, how easy it was to use.

Is the bottom of the clamp the normal piece that you see on a c clamp? If so I’d put a rag there or something so you don’t score the aluminum.

Also, are you swapping valve springs in your living room lol

The round piece on the end of the C Clamp has a ball and socket, normal piece, that's flat where it pushes against the steel valve face. So it doesn't contact aluminum anywhere, and there were no marks left on the valve face. But a cloth napkin prob wouldn't be a bad idea, just to be safe. Living room? No, I wouldn't do that! I work in the kitchen. LOL

Actually, that's my workbench in the garage, right off the kitchen. We put 30 - 12" by 12 inch peel and stick linoleum tiles on it last week, as the plywood was getting pretty greasy. Then I laid an old towel on there. Those linoleum tiles sure made a big improvement over the plywood! Only .66 each at Lowes! On sale.

These Stage VI heads had metal chips near the valves in all the ports, after someone had done a fresh valve job. They must have left them sitting under a lathe or something. I got them with a car I bought, so I'm disassembling them and giving them a thorough cleaning before they go on the 512.

Had to add a small stud and nut to hold the spring pusher in place. If it slips off, the retainer will be launched across the garage.:gay: Could also hurt your fingers.
