Hi All,

Looking for the spring that goes around the outside the rear brake drum. It's a non-finned smooth exterior brake drum.

It goes completely around outside of the drum. I have one of the two and wondering where to get another one or both if they are reasonable?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Wayne

Is this a concours show car? If not, you really don't need it unless you are having some brake squeal going on and even then, the spring probably won't cure it....I'll take a look to see if I have one...and assume the brakes are 11".

Doesn't a drum that takes a spring have a groove in it that the spring sits in. A smooth drum without a groove might not hold it.

I have both the spring and the drum. Hell, I think I have 4 drums and 4 springs. They would need to be blasted and powder coated or painted.

Yes, it's a concourse level restoration. If you would be willing to take a look and see if you have them I'd really appreciate it. I have the drums but need at least one spring ideally two to make sure they match. They are 11" drums.

I bought new harmonic vibration springs on Ebay for my 68 Charger with 11" drums. The factory mopar pieces were 33.2" long and the ones I bought are about 1/8" longer but work perfectly. The ones I bought are for 53-54 Corvette and are the same diameter. I just looked at them on ebay and the guy still has them. He sells them in sets of 4 for $44.95. There was a guy here on FBBO that wanted $40.00 for a pair of rusty used ones. Go to Ebay and type in 53-54 Corvette Brake Drum Vibration Springs. They will show up. Like I said, he sells them in sets of 4 but maybe you could coax him out of just one or two. If not, I have two extras that I didn't use since I upgraded to front discs. I planned on selling my extras with the front drums but really have no plans for them. Let me know if you don't have any luck with the Ebay guy. He has a store under "graygracy"

Cool, great info.

Thanks!

You want a picture of a rusty old vibration damper spring? Here is one I replaced.

I have 2 I just took off the drums. They are sitting in distilled vinegar right now to knock off the rust. Here they are as I took them off. We will see what they look like after a day or so soaking.

I did find them on ebay, but like you said they are $45 plus shipping. It sounds like they might be coming from Europe (at least it's quoted in Euro's). I'd be happy to buy the two you have for $25 plus shipping if you want to sell them. Let me know.

I will get them out of the vinegar when I get home. I watched a video and that stuff made the rust fall off. Lets hope it did the same to these.

It probably will get the rust off, but they will probably be pretty badly pitted once the rust is gone.

Maybe. Are the front and rear drum springs the same? I think these came off the front drums. I will have to go back out and find the rear drums to make sure. I have those too.

You must not have found the springs I referred to. The auctions says made in USA and I didn't see any quote in Euros. His store is in Justice ILL. near Chicago. I sent him a question about selling a pair instead of all 4. His auctions says $9.95 shipping for all 4 springs. I don't think I can ship 2 of them to California that. I can try though if that is what you want.

If I remember correctly, in the B body cars, 6 cyl and small block V8s got the 10" brakes while all Big block cars got the 11" Front and Back. I don't think the finned drums came out until 70 but don't quote me on that. My 68 Charger came with a 383 and had the 11" drums on all 4.

OK, I found the Corvette ones on ebay and bought them. Thanks for your help everyone!

After looking around, I don't have any anyways......
