What is the purpose of this little gold ‘light’ on my RPM gauge? It is not connected to any electric source. I can see if it would light up after a center RPM to warn of a redline, but it appears to do nothing...like my kids.

were is the red light located, Im old and blind. Did look at wire diagram to see if there is a feed for it?

Sorry it is not red. It is the gold bubble on the RPM gauge. I will correct my title and post (color blind).

If you're talking about the plastic plug actually located in the cover lens of the gauge cluster, that is a plug for the hole
for the handle for the clock when the car was so equipped.
The tach takes the place of the clock as in yours.

It kind of looks like a shift/warning light was what somebody was trying to accomplish but the electronics of the tach doesn't include any triggering type circuit for it to work.

Strange practice to put a gold plug in the hole where a clock adjuster would be per moperedtn. Why not use two instrument cluster panels in order to save a few pennies?

Well, truth is the plug was clear plastic when it was new... but things like that yellow with age.

The plug is what saved them more than a few pennies

Tooling and molding 2 different lenses would have been way more expensive than one lens and one tiny plug.

...although sometimes I wonder why they didn't see the savings and simplicity of things like that in other areas.
