Well hot buttered damn! FINALLY!!

Now what the **** ya gonna do?? Radio works, 4spd aint rattlin apart....boring damn car now with nothing to fix. Might as well just sell that ****** to me now to avoid the boredom. I'll break something on it!!:poke::thankyou:

"I TOLD you all I was gonna make it.
No burdens left for the wife when I'm gone..."

Hey man...That is some grim stuff to write about.

Tried 2 different hidden antennas. Under dash didn't work. Top of windshield didn't work. Pulled the fender, some judicious grinding and cutting, and I got a power antenna to fit. It works great and disappears when you shut off the car or radio.

I took the A cable stripped back the rubber and got the wires exposed I then crimped them to a wire coat hanger and never had an issue!
I bought a hidden A for this project it wasn't $10 I guess we will see how it works if not I'll build another one !

On our "undercover car" in the United States Border Patrol we used a coat hanger wire in the radio antenna location on the front fender and used it to transmit on our radio frequencies. The vehicle also had very dark tinted windows and Mexican license plates.

Heh heh. Sure, sure. :)
Well, if it's meant for me to be around a bit longer, I reckon next is to get the thing stopping reliably and BETTER.
The pedal is there and firm - there just isn't much bite to things, beyond the normal drum brake syndrome, so there's
work to be done there.
I also need to work the play out of the manual steering as well - all the components have been gone over and worn ones replaced,
but there is the typical slop in the center. Kinda like steering a boat as opposed to any accuracy.
My wife refuses to drive the thing because of these items and she was raised driving an all manual brakes/steering/transmission POS,
so it's not any of those necessarily - it's just that this one takes so much blunt force to drive.

Always something to tinker with - but I'm extremely grateful to have been allowed to stick around long enough to get to the phase
where I don't HAVE to fix anything critical. Nonetheless, the goal was achieved.
It's all there and it all works - I'd just like bits of it to work better.

Well in a sort of strange way, it isn't - with me at least anyways.
4 times cancer, three times dead, all that crap, remember? Yeah, no tee shirt either.

Bluntly put, I see how some folks who know they're goners do not take care of business for who's left
behind after they're gone and I simply don't want to be one of those people.
My wife has literally been through hell with me and I won't do her that way when it's my time - and it's
quite apparent to those who are charged with my medical care that my time is sooner rather than later
at this point.

The whole goal during all my little dances with croaking is to get things set up (property, vehicles, etc.) so that
she is not left in a net negative financial situation after I'm gone.
Seems fair to me, since she's loyally put in the time and effort (not to mention, allowed me to spend the money
and precious time) to make my bucket list item of owning one more functional b-body come true.
Fair trade, don't you think?

Anyways, I'm not trying to be morbid, just blunt - and this truly is a wonderful thing to be celebrated because,
well, the time to get to the ultimate goal was certainly not only not guaranteed but not even very likely at times.
Now I get to tinker with the thing while enjoying driving it. How cool is that?
I'm also being allowed some time for some paying back for all the help I've received and I'm going to try.
It's all good.:bananadance::drinks::luvplace::thankyou::usflag:

Love it, Dave. Your work is always so impeccable. If I had finally decided to drill a new hole somewhere for a "proper" antenna, I was going to go power
as well. Where the hole is now - no way in hell. Heck, even normal antennas won't work. Almost zero clearance up in that corner.
I found an old antenna lead laying loose on the passenger floor, connected to nothing and passing out into the fender. On the other end was the familiar
"right angle" style Mopar antenna base, so it was apparent the previous owner couldn't get that to work, either - not enough room.

Oh, I bet you could tell some stories!
So - how'd you wind up living on the other side of the border?

We can work a little on the box&brakes. Manual steering & 11” drums, love them both! Get ur FSM out for the st.box; only adjusted my worm gear once in 86k miles.

I still remember one time in my youth when I decided to take the slop out of the box on an old Super Bee I had.
Got it "just right" - I thought.
I went down the street on test drive mode and went to turn the wheel entering a corner...and the wheel wouldn't turn at all.
That was a fun walk back to the house to fetch tools...

The brakes were all supposed to have been gone through when I got the car and the pedal is there - there's just no bite to
the shoes. I'm guessing they threw on the cheapest newer style ones, the ones with no asbestos or metal in them and resemble
compressed cardboard.
That can be easily remedied, of course.

Mine works very well but wasn't $10 either. The one I bought goes on the inside of the window with adhesive, since the top of my glass is tinted you can't see it on the outside. Nice job putting another task behind you, with a car already in paint I would have done the same... no sense in repainting a fender over an antenna.
747, what antenna brand did you use? Where did you pick it up? I was looking for options for my runner, thanks

Moparedtn , good job on the hot rod! Now getter out and run’er like she’s supposed to be run !
