All lights work, brake lights, running lights, signal lights....
BUT------ put brakes on, both lights work, leave brake lights on, and activate right signal....left brake light stays on (normal). Activate left signal light, and right side brake light GOES OUT!!!!
Tried a known, clean, ground to the right tailight socket, no change!
Picture shows what i have changed, but didnt fix....
WTH???

Sounds like the left running light is finding ground through the circuit that goes to the right blinker? Maybe.

Edit: check the harness in the trunk, all the way across left to right, for shorts/splits. Put a known ground to the left housing and try again.

The oldest and most true saying about automotive wiring is "if it's goofy it's likely a ground". Got a meter? I'd put a meter on the 12V wire grounding the other meter lead to a good ground while the light is it acting up, if you have 12V then move the grounded lead to the socket ground... if the 12V goes away it's the ground.

Bad ground or a bad turn signal switch is what I would guess.

Tried it, no difference

Tried this with tester, got no volts at socket when brakes are on and left signal on.....turned off left signal, and got 12v to the right socket!!!

I just read brake lights are controlled thru the signal switch? Think i will just order a new signal switch assembly with harness, cant be that tuff to do?

If I remember correctly the only pain is you have to feed the wires through then install the individual wires into the connector at least on mine I had to. No biggie just know which wire goes where.

Where is this connector? Feed wires thru the column?

The column harness has a plug (connector) that plugs into the cars harness, on mine that plug wouldn't pass through the column without removing the wires then reinstalling them. It's been to long for me to remember if I "had to" or if it was the easiest route:screwy:.

I did this on my 69 Dart. The connector is down on the column. I cut all the old wires off from the connector, leaving enough wire sticking out of the connector, so I could see the wire colors. Installed the new switch assembly, then used needle nose pliers to squeeze the pins in the connector one at a time, pushing it out, then inserting the new wire of the same color from the new assembly into the connector. My assembly did not include the wire for the column shift indicator.

Read somewhere, some of the after market turn signal switches were wired wrong. If it's still open, might check that.

Hmmm....the only aftermarket piece i used was the small top piece with 2 wires that rocks back and forth?
This time gonna replace whole assembly with new harness

Or, simply double-check the wiring, via the diagram.
My 64 switch just needed one wire replaced, and a good clean-up.

Best tool ever, your cell phone camera. My gallery is mostly full of things I'm going to take apart, even 3 pics of a steering column connector I did.

Been dealing with crap like this for 25 years. Honestly very hard to diag on the net. Need to be standing there with car and wiring diag to be able to scratch head effectively.

Ill let ya'll know what i found soon....new signal light harness due in this week....

Send me those column harness pics!

Koosh, This is a 69 floor shift column (no orange lamp lead). These is the very reason I take pictures. If you notice the Black, partially inserted wire, it is in the wrong position. It belongs in the opposite empty position. I probably started and decided to take a picture before I went any further.
