70 Hemi Superbird Restoration..................errr.....scratch that........

So you hope to put 2000 plus HP to the pavement for 1/8th mile?!? WOW!!!
More like 2000 by the time we reach the 1/8 mile mark. I want to run over 200mph in the 1/2 mile and well over 200 in the standing mile. One of the cars I help with went 171mph in the 1/4 mile.
 
What static compression you starting with?
How well will a vacume pump do when under some decent boost?
We’re at 9.5:1 to allow it to work with pump gas. The dry sump should be able to keep the crankcase under vacuum most of the time, however, I added check valves to the valve covers that will open if crankcase goes to positive pressure. We’ll find out how we’ll it works on the dyno.
 
How much boost can you get away with on pump gas?Will you use a W/M system?
I’m not really sure. This is the first turbo Hemi I’ve ever done. We ran 12lbs on the SBF on pump 93. I probably won’t even build a pump gas tune until the car is done. I don’t plan on the water/meth, but it would allow more boost on pump gas.
 
They make some wild claims with W/M! I've read they can support upwards to c16.I'm tired of burning pistons so unless my IAT ges out of hand I'll stick to gas.I'm not sure if the same rules apply to turbo as roots,me thinks boost is boost.I run 4/5 lbs on the pump and c12 at the track.I also found that exhaust restriction is rediculous so I installed dumpers.We'll see when the fall air arrives!
 
Roots will have much higher IAT’s than a turbo. Plus we use water to air inter coolers at the track. The dumps will help tremendously in your case!
 
I am building a similar setup for 1/2 mile. Still waiting on heads and a block. Then I'll start changing the car over. I really like what you have done.
 
So far the IAT has not gone over 200 with a heat soaked blower.I also have not seen over 6lbs of boost.When I tried to go to 10lbs i had a header incident.So I put dumpers on!
Backpressure can do amazing things!!Kinda amazing I got the car to as fast as it did!!

What block and heads? What’s the rest of the combo?

I had a a 496CID with World block,Stage V heads and F1 Procharger. When I decided to switch to twin turbo I thought I would start over.
Sold the Procharged Hemi engine. Like an idiot I didn't do any research and thought that I could just buy another block and start over.
Well there are not an Hemi blocks available. Bill mitchell doesn't have any World Blocks, Keith Black was bought and the new partners are in the middle of sorting everything out and redesigning the block to make a superblock. They say it will be ready in a couple of months. I ended up buying a Indy Maxx Block.I ordered the block through Ray Barton, I get along with him I struggle working with Russ at Indy he's not that friendly.Ray explained that the Indy block needs about 1500.00 in repairs to be usable and that I couldn't just buy it and have it bored.I remember him telling me that four years ago when I bought the World block and Stage V heads from him.
Anyway sorry for Rambling.
It will be a 540 CID Hemi,Indy Block, Edelbrock heads. Running a bullit mechanical turbo cam.Single plane manifold,105 mm LS throttle body,
multi point injection,holley coil near plug,cam sync and crank sensor. Two 68/75 Precision turbos.Precision 66mm wastegates (HUGE)
44MM BOV. It will be my first full turbo build.
I built a twin turbo viper but it was a kit that was on the car I just took it all apart and rebuilt his engine and redid all the charge pipe and intercooler system.
I am in the process of learning how to weld stainless steel. Have to build my own headers.
I've been watching your progress and really like your car. I have no idea how I am going to do the turbos yet.Even though the cars are huge there is not a lot of room in the engine bay.

Thanks! Sounds very close to my combo. I have the same Precision 66 gates and also their 60mm BOVs. I went as big as could on both so I could go to larger turbos in the future, if needed, lol. You’re right on the tight engine bay. The bird nose made it easy in my case.
 
So in between all of the chassis work I’ve been doing, I finally found time to check out and prep a couple ports on the hemi heads. I took them to the local shop and he put them on his Superflow 600 bench to see if I actually improved anything, lol.

This sheet is confusing, so I’ll attempt to clarify.
Column 1 is valve lift
Column 2 is % flow in that range intake
Column 3 is CFM of as cast and then worked intake port
Column 4 is Edelbrock’s claimed numbers from their 1020 bench
Column 5 is flow bench range
Column 6 starts over for the exh %
Column 7 is CFM of as cast and worked Exh port
Column 8 is Edelbrock published 1020 bench numbers for Exh
These were flowed using a 4.500 bore.

For comparison my modern ported Vic jr’s

I think these were a 1020 bench also. I know those are usually softer numbers compared to a 600.
