I read the article, I see that 2 bystanders were sadly wiped out by another car the limo hit, but ALL 18 people died in the wreck of a limo doing 50-60 mph and hitting another car and then an embankment? No fire? No roof ripped off? No drowning in water? I don't get it, I've been in wrecks at those speeds, something doesn't add up here....

No seat belts nor restraining system ! Bet everyone died from a broken neck !

It sounds unbelievable but it happens and brings up a old memory from over 42 years ago. I was married my wife expecting our first. So my party days were over... Guys i know going down the shore... Whatever happened who knows, driver looses control..He was either ejected or jumped out we'll never know...No seatbelt. The car rolled into a grassy area and stops. No damage, no injuries...They couldn't find our good friend. The troopers found him dead of a broken neck..
What a shame this accident was, its mind boggling, just beyond explanation. Newly wed couple, there friends, unreal.

somebody is in big trouble because most limo's that size can only handle 15 people. your right seat belts doubt it. and of course weight will be a issue. most people think its cool to ride around in those death traps but they don't know how bad it is. i feel for the families and prays go out to all of them.

Probably deceleration (60mph to 0mph in a split second) blunt force trauma in a vehicle that was an after factory mod into a limousine with no requirement to provide a restraint system for occupants other than the driver and front passenger. It will also be interesting to see what the toxicology report on the driver reveals. I looked at the junction of these 2 roads on Google Maps satellite. While there are no rumble strips or other warning signs on the road leading to the STOP sign, there appears to be adequate time for the driver to react to the STOP sign if he was alert or not distracted regardless of whether he was familiar with the route or not. Or the brakes may have failed...he was hauling a very heavy load.

Most limo’s that are built from private companies don’t have safety standards like factory limo’s do.

Sad day for sure!

problem comes from most limo drivers don't have to log their time and some lease the limo and get covered in company insurance depends on the lease agreement. i just don't get it

wonder what the d.o.t safety regs show about the company. even if they had one lots of loop wholes for limo's

Those Limos made extended from the factory or Made by a Jobber?

RIP to all involved..

I hope the limo driver didn't get confused between cruise control and auto-pilot while driving...like that doofus many years ago with the Winnebago on a freeway.

Limo also have a wet bar I imagine that thing turns into a bludgeon when the vehicle is rolling.

Looks like a stretched Ford Explorer.

A horrible tragedy.
Perhaps the brakes failed? Just seems hard to believe with today's technology that a driver could totally miss a tee intersection.

I've partied in those explorer limos. Fun time, perhaps I'll think twice
Maybe they were distracting the driver.

It was a 2001 Excursion. Biggest SUV on the planet to begin with. If you do the math,
I don't think the company has enough insurance! That's kinda like when you rear-end a
Ferarri and find out that after your insurance company pays the 100k limit, you owe another
80k!
