Unreal Cigarette Prices

Alcohol is bad for you, lol! Just showing how ridiculous it would be to outlaw one thing and not the other. Besides, what does alcohol have to do with the price of gas?
Even Granny new the old truck would run on shine.

It’s true about alcohol being bad for you too. In fact, recent studies have linked regular alcohol usage to cancer just as badly as tobacco, so basically it is all poison.... so yes it should all be outlawed. The link that is has to fuel is how heavily it is taxed and if they lost the tax from alcohol and tobacco, they would raise fuel tax to make up for their losses because the know that we all NEED fuel.

Cheap cancer, nice ... I guess better than spending $10 a pack to get cancer or give it to someone with secondhand smoke.. Hey, if the smoker AND the secondhand cancer victim get cancer from a $10 pack, is that like just $5 a pack??

First off, don't come crying to us when you find out you have cancer or some other screwed up respiratory disease because your fickle and weak! Second, you must be real proud that you can twist up a butt as fast as that and save money in the process. But are you really saving money when it all goes up in smoke? Why do you think they call smokers "BUTTHEADS"?

I am moved by your righteousness.

Not righteousness ..It's anger. I held my older brothers hand as he took his last breathes, when he looked at me and said "did I really do this to myself". Gone forever at 56. Also my aunt, my mothers twin, who never smoked in her life. Died because her husband smoked a couple packs a day. Gone forever at 66. I don't know it all, I smoked for 20 years. Believe me, I just wish you well.

I quit smoking a year and a half ago, after 34 years, I just said screw it im done and quit cold turkey, finally got that monkey off my back.

Good for you, Congrats! I bet your wallet be likin it?

What is amazing is my sense of smell has returned, I can smell people that are smoking in traffic up ahead of me, so weird, and when I walk by a smoker I can tell, its amazing that is what I used to smell like, yuck!

Marketing 101
hook them when they are young
make them look cool, sexy
or active lifestyles associated with the products
same **** with booze/beer

some are more easily duped than others

It's your life, if you want to do it to yourself

let the market place dictate it, let people choose for themselves
doesn't always work either
But it's better than a tyrannical govt. overreach
telling you, that you can't drink or smoke etc.

you can't throw everyone in the same pot
not one fix for everyone, some people think it's their way or the hi-way

both booze & tobacco employ 100's of thousands of people
it's the livelihood of millions or more
is it right to take all that away
I'd bet if it was your family affected you'd say no

it's truly a conundrum
some people just deal with life's issues/choices better than others

I'm an ex-smoker,
I'm sure I'd have been pissed if someone was telling me I can't do something
when I actually started smoking, I was still young & stupid
but I never smoked that much, (not a good excuse either) usually more socially
when I couldn't chew tobacco (both disgusting filthy habits)
don't do either for decades now

chewing tobacco is very hard to quit (disgusting filthy habit too)
I chewed for about 10 years,
I smoked for about 10 years too

I one day said; '**** it, I don't need it, any of it'
didn't want to be a bad example for the young ones/kids
it's really hard to be self righteous, be an example when you're doing exactly
"what you tell them not to do, that it's bad for them" etc.
that was 30 years or so ago

I do smoke a good cigar once in a blue moon
maybe 3 a year

I rarely even drink anymore,
maybe once or twice a month, or a beer here & there,
I do enjoy a good bourbon from time to time
usually socially too
but I'm not quiting booze or beer
I'm not abusing it either,
In my case, it's more of self control or will not to

some people have no self control

as long as you're not affecting someone else that's innocent
or in a crowed public place
I say to each their own choices

but I think regular smoking, more so 'chain smoking' is really stupid
just like being a fall down drunk or dude that are smoking pot regularly
daily/everyday is just as stupid/lame too
they act all self righteous like it's not them, because it's not tobacco
or booze

I don't have an addiction either & I'm not prone to addictions
(other than cars, MoPars especially :poke:) like some people are

some people are more prone to compulsive addictive types of behavior
& some people are more prone to sicknesses & even cancer
some people don't eat right, are obese & don't ever exercise,
you gonna' make a law about that too ?
where does the tyrannical overreach stop ?
you can't just blanket everyone "is one way or other
& throw everyone in the same pile"

that's not how it works,
that's not how a free society works either

some people think the govt. or overreaching regulations
"is the answer to everything",
well I hate (more like love) to tell you it's not & never will be
not in the USA

but why press it, why chance it & the crap it does to you

I remember something that was said to me as a young man
"almost anything in moderation, isn't bad"
(of course some things are really 'stupid' too, you need to decide for yourself)

why some people chose to still smoke
especially the financial burden when you really can't afford it
or it makes another part of your life suffer
don't make poor decisions
more power to you if you can afford it & the consequences from it

smoking anything, make you stink to hi-heaven too
unless you're a fellow smoker you can't probably smell it

that's my $0.25 cents
I really don't give a rats *** what some people think about it either
to each their own

That was the effect I experienced when I quit. Funny how that comes into play after you have quit the nasty habit. To this day I cannot stand the smell of it at all. And I can get a whiff of someone smoking from quite a far distance because of the improved sense of smell I now have. Even though now I am smoke free and my lungs are nice and clean now, I have diminished breathing capacity which is now at 75% capacity, COPD, and Sleep Apnea. That is the price I now have to pay and live with because I smoked for so long and never believed what was the truth about the habit. Now I am quite adamant about it and have no problem in saying so despite how I may Piss Off someone that does...cr8crshr/Tuck:usflag::usflag::usflag:

it's horrible what cigarette makers put in the process to make them more addictive.Clearly they don't resemble the tobacco The Indians smoked a couple hundred years ago.

My Father smoked 2 packs of Kools a day from his early teens. He died a horrible death at 50 years old from lung cancer. I quit smoking right before he died and never touched a cigarette again. One of the best decisions I ever made.
I have a 25 acre farm here in North Carolina and the Government actually pays me to NOT grow tobacco.

My step mother's mom smoked a pack a day.
She developed sinus cancer at 45. One eye was removed, and chemo blinded her, destroyed all sense of smell and taste and blinded her.
Also destroyed all short term memory. (The cure was as bad as the illness)
She spent the last 12 years of her life only able to hear and touch, not knowing what day or year it was. (But quite ironically she remembered that she smoked)
She finally passed away in 2000 in a dementia ward at the ripe old age of 57.
Very tragic, in retrospect, the cancer would have been a less cruel demise.

My Dad could drive the tractor, and pull a bag of prince albert out of his shirt pocket, and role one to replace the cig that he was smoking. day in,day out. I had to empty the bucket he coughed up in the night before. I was 12 years old. I had a great example of what not to do. My brother now, saw the same thing and smoked anyway. he died after 32 years as a Maricopa county deputy(Phoenix) and didn't get to spend one dime of his retirement.

I'm not making light of it, but living is detrimental to your life. Smoking, drinking, drugs jumping out of airplanes etc.etc.

The wife & I just got back from a trip to the Northeast to sightsee the beautiful fall foliage; White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire is in its peak foliage.

The taxi ride from Boston Logan International Airport to the hotel passed by a corner store with placards in the window advertising cigarette specials:

I asked the taxi cab driver if the $10.25 price was per each pack? No ****, I was shocked to hear the answer. The driver said it is close to $13 per pack in New York City. These numbers are insane!

I guess I lost touch of reality by living in the fly-over zone. I found that Missouri price per pack today is the lowest in the nation @ $5.25 per pack average.

ttps://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/09/27/the-surprising-cost-of-a-pack-a-day-in-all-50-stat.aspx

There would be no way I could have afforded those numbers when I was a 21 year old heavy drinker and a 3-pack-a-day smoker. I quit smoking 6 years ago on a pack-a-day habit. I remember paying $7.75 then for a 3-pack-special of Marlboro Lights in Missouri. The most I ever paid was $7.75 a pack of smokes 8 years ago at a South Point Casino vending machine in Las Vegas. I remember telling myself I'll never do that again.

I kinda/sorta feel sorry today for the smokers in NYC, Chicago & Boston.…….. just sayin.'

I do not smoke, never did, never will....
Average California price is $8.50 per pack....
Roll your own like I used to do with my Mom

Sorry to hear that your Service was cut short by the Army's incompetence! I'm surprised they didn't find you a new, quieter job. I wonder what the hearing standards are for Army? Thank you for your brief sacrifices while serving.

The south and big tobacco want nothing to do with their product, but have no choice but to keep growing it.
History lesson for you carnut. Do you know what the souths major cash crop was before the civil war? Here's a hint, It wasn't tobacco!
I wouldn't mind hearing your side to American history, being that you disagree with me on the economy of the Confederacy.

In the Carolina's, the main cash crop was grapes for making wine until the Yankees came along and trashed them. After the war people needed money and a fast growing crop to make it happen. Guess what? Tobacco pays for itself the first year, grapes take about 5 to mature. Happy now?
