Prime the carb when the gas has evaporated? What do you guys do?

All the gas in the carb evaporates away after my car sits for a few days. This requires turning the engine over for about 15 to 20 seconds before the engine will fire. After that it fires right away. Beside getting an electric fuel pump, is there anyway around this?

If I decide to replace the mechanical pump with an electric pump, what's a good one to get? I don't have a return line. Would I mount the pump near the gas tank or in the engine bay?
 
Squirt bottle with some gas in it.
 
You really don’t want to use starting fluid on a regular basis.

I’ve used the squirt bottle and squirted it into the bowls through the vents
 
Hmmm, take the lid off to fill it with a squirt bottle, an electric fuel pump, or deal with it?

How much are electric fuel pumps, again?
 
I’m not a fan of electric fuel pumps.
I’d just crank it until it starts if you don’t want to prime the bowls.
 
One these inline, buy one that matches your hose size. Someone in thread "crank crank ".

How long does it take to remove air cleaner besides that starting fluid is pretty harsh in my opinion
 
Yeah, but that requires taking the air cleaner off. Any harm with using starting fluid?
Well if your that lazy to deal with a slight problem that forces you to remove the air cleaner. Then why do you have a carbureted car to begin with?
Go ahead an use starting fluid if you want to take a chance on ruining your car! After all, it is yours.
 
if your bowls are empty that fast you may have another problem. After my cars sit for months or even over the winter I still get a solid accelerator squirt and they fire up.

Maybe check and see if you have some sort of siphoning or leakage. Gas in PA doesn't seem to evaporate as fast as it does everywhere else?
 
My F.ILs 55 does that after sitting a week and the pump won't pick up, so I take an airhose with a rag and stick it in the fill nozzle and give a little blast. The pump picks right up and it lights off after a couple of seconds.
He also has one of those pita aircleaners that requires an allen wrench to take off...
 
I crank mine for about 10seconds 4or five times
pausing in between to cool starter.
Works for me.

But one could also say not actually fixing it is being lazy:poke:.
 
To me there's nothing more embarrassing than a car that doesn't fire right up so if it were me I wouldn't just ignore it. Really surprised by how many are fine cranking away?

After completing mine I had the same headaches, crank, crank, crank, hated it! A phenolic spacer really helped mine but after installing the new carb the car has been nearly flawless. The carb is a Quickfuel Q series 750 with the Black Diamond finish and no choke, he said the coating helped with heat issues???? I honestly don't know if the coating helps or if it was the carb? Cold starts, just give it 2 pumps, if it's warm just turn the key like it should be... haven't had to deal with cranking for years.

When I had my carter AVS on the car, it would always behave just like the OP’s car.
Crank, crank, crank.......

I switched to a Holley 750DP and it lights right off with one pump of the pedal, no matter how long it’s been sitting
