62 Polara charging issues.

One year old battery. Remanufactured alternator don't know how old. Voltage regulator replaced 4 months ago. Ballast resistor 3 months old.

After sitting on trickle charger for a couple days it starts right up. If she sits off the charger for more than a couple hours it requires a jump. So this is problem one. After starting this morning I unhooked the battery and will check starting when home from work today to see if battery is holding charge. (I do have a backup remanufactured alternator).

Problem two. I checked to see if anything was draining battery from interior. Dome lights have never worked. Glove box light does work. How do you get the light bulb out or unhook the wire to it? I can only feel it. Can't see it. Could not find anything in service manual.

Thanks.

Pop fuse for glovebox light?, but sounds more like shorted cell in battery.

Wonder if it's shorted out?

If it's like mine, the light housing, where the 'button' is, has to be popped out. Whole light socket then pulls out, to get to the bulb.

Update. I was able to get the bulb out. Little tricky but did it.

Anyway, started her up on Saturday after being on trickle charger for a week. Let her warm up and then removed cables to battery. Hooked them back up on Sunday and she revved (strong) right up.

So when the battery is hooked up (not running) something is draining her.

Is the next logical step to replace the alternator? As mentioned, I have an extra one.

Shorted diode in alt could drain battery also, BUT battery first!

I replaced the alternator and let her set hooked up for about 8 hours and she cranked right up. Would not do that before....was dead after 6 hours hooked up. Then she sat for two days and again cranked right up.
Rarely do I drive the car at night but I did notice after the alternator change the lights were much brighter in both tail and front.
Hopefully that was it. But as we know on these classics....be ready for the next issue.
Oh and the other cool thing is that my 24 year old daughter was over and helped me changed the alternator from beginning to end. Good Mopar girl.
