Does anyone know what came out as original equipment for tail pipes on a 73 Charger SE? Our car has exhaust tip hangers but we don't know if it came out with the slotted exhaust tips and if so, what color was original, red or black? If the slotted isn't correct, where can we find the correct exhaust tips? HELP!

what engine was in it from the factory?

only four barrel cars (and the 318 Road Runner and possibly rallye Charger) would have had dual exhaust with or without tips.

It depends on the engine it was equipped with and whether it came with duel exhaust or not. A 318 car would likely not have tips. My 73 SE 400 has factory duels with tips and they appear to be orange in the inderts.

I have a triple black original 73 se with the 400 4 barrel. It had dual exhaust with slotted tips. Orange inside the slots. These cars had the option of duals with tips. If your fender tag was stamped for it, you would see n41 and n42 codes on it, however depending on where it was made, it may not have been stamped on the tag

In all the se and rallye chargers I have and have seen, I haven't seen one yet with dual exhaust that didn't have the slotted tips. And they also have the dual exhaust valance with cutouts as well.

I've seen at least one 74 SE 400-4 without tips.

IIRC California may have had some exhaust variances as well.

There ate two different codes for duals and tips.

Well, as car I have noticed turndows tips is standard in all Chargers except those with the rear valence with cutouts. These are 340 ( Rallye by default ) and 440... 400 just with 4 bbl on Rallyes I think. All FACTORY machine gun tips are red and models without resonators are for 2.25" pipes. 440 and Hemis got 2.5" pipes between manifold and muffler, but were reduced to 2.25 after the muffler.

as far the "correct" exhaust tip... well, The "correct" ones are as mentioned 2.25" and chromed, then the inner insert is straight tube and welded a cone end to match with outer finish tip. Is more common to find SS tips which are more durable. Some manufacturers makes the inner insert correctly done like factory, straight pipe and welded cone, some other use a tube enlarged on a machine, like a stepped or "reduced" pipe.

Aside that, would like to find a tip with a REALLY durable red finish. Two sets I have got from diffrent manufacturers, no one have last long more than a month in red.

...

All 4 bbls for 73

But I'm pretty sure for WHATEVER reason 440 4 speeds didn't get them at certain point
