Hello All,
I am elbow deep on the restoration of this 68 Charger. As I tear it apart, I am finding lots of things that I either need or want to replace. The latest items are the front grill and tail lights. Classic Industries has them but I am concerned about the quality (all plastic). Do any of you have either feedback on their products or have another recommendation? I also need a heater box.
Thanks for the input.

I've bought quit a bit of stuff from Classic and have been happy with the product. But you still have to do due diligence. One item I bought was made in Taiwan. I didn't realize that when I ordered it. I'm from Canada so we have to pay duty on stuff ordered from the USA. I ordered restoration torsion bars for my '67 Coronet and paid the duty. When I opened the box they were made in Canada. I usually talk to someone on site rather then just order online. Be careful, ask questions and you should be okay.

In recently finished a 67 Charger. 68 parts are far easier to find. Where possible try to use original parts- generally better made and more importantly fit better. Shop around, you can find similar parts for widely differing prices on reproduction parts. They appear to be from the same supplier. Best of luck! That’s a good looking stable you have there!

FYI, I'm told that the Canadian torsion bars & leaf springs are far superior to the Mexican versions. Just say'in.

Lets see some pics of the resto process or do you already have them on the Restoration Thread?

Welcome to FBBO! Please place a post in the Welcome thread section so we can all get to know you. My advice is to search this forum for all other 68 Charger resto's and read up to learn what they did, and how they did it. Who did they buy parts from. Any unanswered questions after that can be posted up and concerned fellow hot rodders will chime in to the debate. Good luck!

BEA has the taillight lenses on Ebay for $100 for the set. Same ones as Classic, better price. I too have used Classic quite a bit, but also sourced parts here, Ebay, other online sites and forums. I did a box opening review on the Classic grill a few weeks back. I will post the assembly and fit pics once done. So far, I like the quality of the grill. Always be smart with Classic and Year One, find the best combination of sale price plus shipping options. I usually save up my orders for Classic until a free shipping sale pops up.

good luck with the 68 Charger Project

If you want my input, fix them but of coarse I don't know how bad yours is? My 69 grill was badly beaten, cracks and pieces broken off all over. There's several on here who have restored them with great results, on mine I used plastic weld. Why it's called weld I'll never know but it's just a 2 part epoxy sold in many store. Like anything else prep work is important, buy a small Dremel and your set.

Heater boxes are really easy to fix too, there's a company that sells a complete gasket/seal kit for them. Detroit Speed maybe:realcrazy:.

I've got nearly 15,000 miles on it and still holding together:thumbsup:.

To the best of my knowledge the MOPAR bars from the later '90"s are from Mexico. I may be incorrect. Several Mopar regulars have given this opinion. My leaf springs from the early '90's seem to be from Canada. Still not the same as those from the early '80's made in USA. I don't know where torsion bars come from these days. Seems like Chinese steel is pretty common.
