So I got a lead from co worker on a tic toc tachometer went to look it was used worked asked how much said he wanted 500 but he let me have it for 450 am I crazy for saying no thanks 450 ???? Am I out of touch..... man I thought 200 maybe 250 wow ok semi rant over.

No thanks I'll keep my working clock and baby tach under dash.......

What would you do if you bought one that didn't work for 200 and got it restored for an additional 200-300?

The reproductions are junk.....

Well nation first I'd have a crack at it to fix bought a reg clock for my roadrunner 45 bucks untested didn't work took it apart reassembled and clean and lubed oh and by the way had an extra winding / coil in it and wa la it works...... id try that if not I'd resell it for 200 haha .......why you have one that's not working lol

Well I am telling you is what reality is as far as pricing......Original tachs are rare and through time the price shows.....The last one I purchased that was basically NOS was 275 in 1993......

A clock is different than a tach.....you do realize that....

Of course I do bro my point is pricing is out of control no ? I'm sorry on some items its price gouging.... I'm 50 but I'm old school don't f@$k people over and you'll be a better person for it

Some can afford it and some cannot....It is not a right...lol

The price reflects the rarity...that is it....they are not a dime a dozen...For the people that own them why should they have to sell it for less because you are whining about pricing.....It is not your part and not your place.....

You missed the clear point I tried to make that if YOU bought one that didn't work and couldn't repair it yourself. Then sent it out for restoration you will be 400-500 bucks into that tach. What would you whine about then, the restoration cost I bet.....This is why nice working tachs command what they are getting. One for the rarity and two the owners know what it costs to get one restored.....

I am old school as well. I have given more parts away for free than one can imagine....Also, have been screwed over in the hobby several times......So I am not sure what your referring to as "you'll" above......

I understand that too just venting the overcharging fact btw it means if you don't screw people over ( generalization) you'll be a better person for it all am saying that this guy was screwing me in my opinion that's all clear as day

I get it.....Trust me I do......I have owned thousands of parts and only certain ones I will stand up for on pricing...This is one instance....

What I dont understand is why we can buy an autometer tach cheaper than a reproduction tach.....The autometer will last forever and your lucky if the reproduction even works right....Sure tooling costs but they make in china under cheap tooling.......

If this was a bowtie tach we wouldn't even be talking about it....

That is what is sad about our hobby

Yes Im old school to and also gave things away and seen people sell it on e bodies only. Piss me off but thats life. people are gouging like they have gold. We all know this is not a cheap hobby. Be like me and buy a 1 year only and see how fast you pay out the nose. You want it you will pay for it.

I concur. I have a 67 R/T and certain parts are astronomical, but that's also because you can't find them or they are very expensive to repair. Don't get me started on the grill surrounds!

Although, I personally love the hunt. You just have to be patient. I have met some great people and got some great deals.

I don't have any NOS parts as I know this is out of my price range, but I have some really, really good driver quality parts. For me, I like it. I thinks it lends to keeping the car looking original but in really great shape. Everyone has different ideas of what they want their cars to be, but all that is dictated by their budget.

If the price is too high, just don't buy it, but put it in the memory banks so when that part comes up for less you know it's a good deal and you don't hesitate and miss the opportunity.

And I do agree, a percentage of parts are priced very high, IMO, but as my mom taught me a long time ago with baseball cards, they are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. It will sell or it won't. Buy it or don't. It's all supply and demand.
