Do you like the modern muscle cars that race in the NHRA & NMCA Factory Stock class. Heads up , no index & no break out. Just like the old days. Drag Pak’s vs COPO’s vs Cobra Jets. Check out this group on Facebook.

she no slouch in the looks department too

Oh you mean the Pro Chevy, Super Chevy class ? NHRA has always favored GM,But what they have done now is just sad. Like years ago,Mopar gets the shaft per the rule books.
Yes, I think the Factory Stock class will become very popular, till NHRA starts changing the rules again.

NHRA already added weight to the Mopars in the Factory Stock class. But what else is new ? Ron

A few years ago I read an interview on the internet with Ronnie Sox. He said that many years later, Wally Parks apologized to him for the "raw deal" Chrysler got back in the 60's and 70's and that he (Wally) was part of it and or let it happen. Also, on the 'American Muscle Car' show, the Super Stock episode, Buddy Martin told a story about going to the NHRA (I believe it was a tech director, didn't give his name) about the HEMI weight breaks saying something like "you're killing us", Buddy said "He looked me straight in the eye and told me, If I can get Chevrolet and Ford racing each other on Sunday, I don't care what Chrysler does". Kinda makes it hard for me to get excited about any new classes in NHRA.

My thought with NHRA had been Why ? Why favor any over the other ? Answer MONEY. Pro stock is a joke.
Today I think about competition and the meaning of the word. It kills me the TEAM theme.Who wants to watch 4 funny cars/dragsters owned by the same team race each other ? And with the point countdown, who's foolin' who ?
I just don't get it. Help me out here folks, any theories ?
And don't get me started on how the NHRA treats the Sportsman racers. I had a track official once say "God I hate the sportsman class, too many of them". If it weren't for the Sportsmen NHRA would have died long ago... Rant over.

This is what should replace prostock!

It probably will, but the big teams and $$$ will lead it down the same path as Pro Stock.
It is one of my favorite classes to watch. I talked to Turk and Tasca at NMCA Indy this year. If this class becomes even more popular, look for the big teams to push out the smaller ones or the individual.
As for the weight adjustment on the Challengers, most of them are heavy anyways. It didn't hurt them one bit.
Imo, I don't think the NHRA is as pro chevy as they are pro money. Those that spend the most are going to get catered to.

Turk is going to a Mustang next year.
Sad to see.

He said he wants the challenge of getting one of the Cobra Jets in the 7s. As far as I know, he didn't get rid of the Blackbird. He told me he is a Mopar guy by heart , but will build and race anything. My guess is Carl made him an offer that was hard to turn down.
The conversation I had with them in September was very interesting.

Yep politics in racing. Gm was the biggest car manufactor in the US and I am sure it had a ton to do with money and NHRA not caring about the number 3 car manufactor winning. Just another reason many Mopars people will never like NHRA. Ron

One of the areas where I may depart from the "rules made to level the playing field" is BAD drumbeat is in motorcycle racing.
Reason being is that my wife and I both own Harley-Davidson V-Rod motorcycles, and from what I understand H-D gets a weight break vs the Rice burners. Anyone know the current status of that?
I guess because I really love our V-Rods I like to see H-D motorcycles that use the same basic geometry motor design as the V-Rods we ride being competitive down the 1320, and I personally like the sound of that double overhead cams V-Twin thumper tearing down the 1320.
So are Harley-Davidsons getting a weight break over the other manufacturers???:popcorn2:

The number 3 car maker had WAY more than their share of success in racing in the 60's. I love that and that's the part of history that is slowly fading away. Some young people have the attitude like "Why do you like old Mopars? What did they ever do?" On the other hand though, if everybody wanted Mopars, we'd probably be paying 20k for rusted out shells. lol

Thanks Roughbird72....
I'm embarrassed that I underestimated my true love of motorcycle engines: the V-Rod...
I know there are quite a few street bikes out there putting out a lot more horsepower than my 1250cc V-Rod mill. Even with simple mods: slip on V&H mufflers, a high performance Amsoil air filter, and the TTS tuning software, I have 123 HP and 88Ft/Lbs TQ at the rear wheel. Compared to the 200 Horsepower some showroom stock bikes are putting out, it's pretty mild by comparison, but I LIKE IT, and frankly if my V-Rod had a lot more power and less weight I know I would be tempted to exceed MY riding skills by making use of that extra speed.
The story of the V-Rod, how Harley-Davidson teamed up with Porsche to take the last Superbike motor Harley ran in competition (1999) and utilizing that basic design make it into a very reliable yet affordable (in that the motor doesn't cost $20k plus) street machine really enamoured me to the whole package, and it's plenty fast enough for me!

They get a cid advantage too
only 2 cylinders, it's like 60cid more
& 50#'s less

Vs the Suzuki's

Buels have/had a disadvantage for a while because of the bodies
they have streamlined them a little more

Suzuki 4 cylinder inline 1600cc 4 vale per/cyl = 97cid (IIRC 100cid limit)
Vs Harley or Buel v-twin 2 valve pre/cyl (pretty much all S&S engines) 160cid

The Harley have NHRA added rules advantage for sure
