Shiny chrome with black sides I would assume.
Was the 66 original any different than a 67 original in that respect?
I bought the repo that is basically for all Chargers.
It has two pins instead of three.
No problem since the extra hole is covered by the script.
Always chrome with the black sides. 66 & 67 had 3 studs and in 68 they went to 2 studs BUT the emblem is the same.
This pic does not show the 3 stud one but you will get the idea.
Chrome with black sides, similar to fender emblem (383 four barrel, 440, V8 etc.). If you take an emblem, paint the whole thing, and then quickly run the face over a flat Scott blue paper towel with laquer thinner on it, it will come out nicely. It’s hard to get the paint on only the sides, doesn’t always adhere well. May need a couple coats. Try etcher first coat or two.
You can sometimes see a bit of black on the recesses or bottom of old emblems. It fades with sun/time/weather.
My early 67 build had three speedy nuts, later builds did have barrel clips. Use barrel clips if you can.
66-70 are the same except for the studs.
Then as you see they got smaller and a bit different.
Here is my 67 and my 73 door emblems next to each other. 73 were smaller ans stick on.
Is there a good way to remove these emblems without breaking them or the studs? My paint underneath needs some work and I figure I'll touch them up while they're off...
Not really. If those speed nuts are stuck you could snap the stud and unfortunately the part that is exposed is probably the weakest.
Before you go a-crankin' try some PB Blaster or something to lubricate the stud/nut after you remove the sail panel.
