Thinking about adding an aftermarket floor shifter to my 70 Belvedere while the engine and trans are out. If I do it, do I have to remove or modify the auto lockout gear inside the column? I think it releases with the ignition key. I’ll leave the column gear indicator in place and keep all the linkage so I can convert it back one day. I know I’m giving up the backup lights and neutral switch too.

The backup light and neutral switch switch is located on the left side of the trans. Going from a column to floor shift will not affect their operation.

so the trans going into reverse makes the light come on not a switch at the shifter?
