For the installation of headers, 69 RR, 383, 4SPEED.....replace with one of these stock Dakota starters for room for the headers?

I bought one of these off ebay. works like a charm on the 383 the only issue is the adapter for the power is not usable. You have to take it off and put a insulator on the post next to the block. I would not buy another one Id spend more money and get a clockable one. The fit is good other than the posts are in the wrong position.

I bought a mopar performance lightweight P5249644 for more room and less weight, and more cranking power. It is essentially the Dakota starter. It didn't clear the headers (hooker adjustable) any better, and I hated where the wire terminals were ( WAY to close to the block to suit me, and yes, I removed the adapter).
The high- dollar mp starter is laying on the floor somewhere, the heavy full-size stocker is on the car.
Edit: 440 in a 62 with very old headers, 2 inch.

I bought an el-cheapo from fleabay like BeeBeep

Remove the extension terminal, cut about 3/16" off the big stud for block clearance. Dougs Headers, 440 engine. Really spins her over!

Someone on here was selling a different extension terminal that came out the side.

BeepBeep, So you prefer these aftermarkets vs the dakota starters?
Is it me, but these you listed all seem to have electrical connections on the "engine side", which is wrong?

Price wise they are cheap.. Make the modification with the terminals and put the other money back in your pocket. The starters work well other than the posts being in a stupid place. Thankfully there is a freeze plug right there to help with clearance issues. The only thing you lose is the Iconic Mopar starter sound..

Yes the adapter removes. You can get a rubber terminal cover from Autozone..

Just found member "Valiantone" sells the terminal adapters, should i be looking into those as well as a mini starter?

Its not something you HAVE to have. But if you would like them to be away from the block more then Yes buy the adapter too.

And for what all those people say that they bought for cheap. I can guarantee you you'll find one cheaper in the bone yard that will last just as long if not longer!! Good Luck

This is true.. But then again they are in the junkyard for a reason..

Agree if you get a good one. The last time I dealt with a junk yard they wanted almost new prices. If you have a favorite yard that gives you good deals, go for it.

Where did you get the cover for the stud closest tobthe block?

The cover came with my starter.

Some where is my DB Electrics Starter, with FABO sourced Electrical post relocation kit, DEI heat bag and Doug's Headers.
