New Project Car - '66 Belvedere

Btw, I installed a dual MC from a 69 Valiant (did it because it was here and new). Had to modify the brake light switch bracket and use some adapter fittings on the lines, but it ended up being a nice swap. Not sure if you can find the adapter fittings anymore though. The bore was a tad smaller so I got a decent PSI and so long as there was no air in the system, pedal travel was good too.

If you have 4 wheel drum brakes just hit the parts store for a 67 Satellite master with manual drum brakes.

Dual master cylinder and buff out engine compartment .:D
haha yeah the engine compartment needs some serious help...as does most of the car. The car was Zierbart undercoated way back when...what a mess that crap is now, i think eventually it made the car rust worse underneath as it started to peal and the moisture was trapped against the metal. Also there is some over-spray in the engine compartment and not sure how much that will come off...we'll see when I get there. Dual master cylinder is for sure in the plan before too long.

...but there's no splitter/prop valve for the rear and the "correct 67" one is expensive.

I've heard of people "simply" running the fronts through the existing 66 2 way valve and the rears directly off the M/C, but I have not seen this in person.

EDIT- looks like post 23 might address that.

I am however, convinced that Mopars don't actually use those valves for "proportioning" but instead use the bores of the wheel cylinders and/or disk calipers to accomplish that, which in turn makes the selection of those parts crucial, and suggests keeping donor systems parts together.

BTW- car looks mighty fine and seems to be coming along quickly.

---another thing- I case you didn't notice, the rear wheel wells get quite a bit narrower as the wheel travels up into them, with a pronounced inverted ledge on the outside.
This is the real limiting factor for wheel width.

Now we're talking . . . time to mini-tub and de-hump the wheel wells . . . I know all about that ! ! Then you'll have PLENTY of room for what ever you want to put under there ! !

BTW - Nice ride, but then I'm partial to the Belvedere ! !

Yeah I was looking at that...I made some cardboard cutouts to simulate the new tires...it's going to be very close. I have the same type of tire on the GTX and they are slightly narrower overall than the online spec suggested....so I'm hoping that's the case with these as well. Should know next week.

I had Ordered some replacement headlights without looking closely enough....wrong size. As it turns out every Site that I can find has the wrong size listed when you look it up by 1966 Belvedere...that'll teach me I guess. Anyways re-ordered hopefully the correct size lights that take H4 bulbs, crossing fingers that they are correct.

The Wheel/Tire combo did end up fitting...very close on the drivers side, I'll post some pics tonight.

Would like to lower the front slightly....and need to get that door aligned a bit better.

What size wheels and tires did you end up using? They look good.

Keep an eye on that gas cap. I'd have a thin piece of cable cap to filler screws.

A few turns on the torsion bar adjusters will change the front end height. Just be sure to re-check front end alignment.

I hope to join you in Lincoln next summer with my 66 Satelllite, also red. Yours looks great.

For sure! Just let me know. I bought an '88 Conquest last week, so now I have my time split between 3 projects :p I'm debating swapping the 5.7 hemi into the Belvedere instead of the GTX and then building a stout big block for the GTX.
