First Super Bee built thread

Since the other thread is locked and I cannot comment there, I will put in my two cents in regards to some of the discussion regarding a car getting built and parts shortages. Now this may or may not relate, due to the fact we are talking 1968ish and when I was building trucks in Kelowna from '93-02, but I would think the process would be similar despite the time and product. We had a huge warehouse that stocked thousands of parts as well as outside storage for the bigger stuff that was not kept inside (frame rails, engines, transmissions, suspension and axles), and despite having multiple trucks delivering parts every day.....shortages happened!! If we had a short part on the line, we would build what we could, then the inspector would mark that on the sheet and the truck wold continue to the next station. If it was not operable or drivable, we had it towed off line and put with all the others....these trucks would make four stops before going to the dealers. "North Final" was a part of the plant that the trucks would be brought in to have any parts installed and an inspector would go over the truck to fine tune everything. All the trucks were run on a chassis dyno to ensure everything worked as needed, including the wiring and lights (we also had a small track the trucks were run across which had various types of speed bumps to compress and settle the suspension). If the truck was complete, it would goto final paint for any touch up before it went to the "Ship Shack".....here the inspectors would go over the truck for the final time and make any corrections as needed, before it went to "Ship Row" for the driver to pick up and deliver. I have never been in modern car/truck plant to witness how one gets built, but I would assume the same thing there as when I was building them....."THE LINE NEVER STOPS".....if there were no parts, it goes on and is dealt with at a later date.

The reason that the other thread was locked, was because the subject and nature of replies was turning nasty, and could only go one way. Please don't be 'that guy' who makes this one turn the same direction. Getting the truth on these cars is good for everyone in the hobby, but bagging on the owner is not good.

No worries Kiwi, just reading some of the questions regarding "how" a vehicle gets built and thought I would chime in about my experience! Now whether or not it is of any help....who knows, but I thought what the heck! As for the other thread...….got nothing!!!

Rick Ehrenberg has written on assembly procedures before. One point that stood out was that if a part was unavailable, you could install an UPGRADED part (Rally gauge, 3 speed wiper, SG diff, etc) but you could NOT install a lesser part as a substitute.

Unfortunately people have been getting duped for a long time. Years ago i answered an ad for a #s 69 Bee. Went to take a look. First looking over the condition of the car noticed single exhaust, wrong rear end. Looked inside and it had the wrong interior. Came around to the engine bay and looked at the fender tag. Yup 69 Bee fender tag. Something aint right...looked at VIN...uh oh.. Coronet 440 with a 318. Asked guy what numbers matched. He said motor and trans matches fender tag. Told him too bad he had a 69 Coronet with a Super Bee front clip. Warned him to pull the ad and contact an attorney to go after whoever sold him the car. He was stunned. Felt kinda bad for him. Chevy guy that got screwed buying his first Mopar.

The line ran with the parts that were available to install.......It was not perfect......That is the only answer that all experts will agree on.....

Claiming a car has non coded parts.....Well you better do some serious documentation during disassembly.....There are always areas that have never been exposed since it rolled out of the assembly plant. Without any factual proof than no one knows......It is just deemed "incorrect".....Factual proof will show that said part is "correct".....

The car being disassembled ALWAYS tells the story....

I have the first Mustang built. Any idea how much it's worth?
