My tachometer in my 69 RR has started acting different. When it sits without any power it creeps up off of zero to the ~4 or 5k rpm mark. As soon as I turn on the ignition it immediately goes to 0. When the car is running it seem to function normally.

Has anyone dealt with this beforehand? It just recently started doing this.

Not unusual. Some have an adjustment for this, but I've never done this myself. The tech literature on Real Time Engineering's website has details.

It may just be a static charge buildup on the face of the tach. It will cause the needle to move all over the place when setting. Especially when the weather gets cold and lo humidity.

Not sure it matters, but out of curiosity, is this a factory or aftermarket tach?

It’s aftermarket, after I initially installed it all was good. I bought it from classic industries. This is a fairly new development. I was wondering if I might have a short or something. I’ve had the battery disconnected for a couple months though and it still does it.
