Stereo Speakers in the Doors or Kick Panels?

For $200, you can buy OEM used kick panels and good speakers with results identical to the classic parts, which I still don't think are made for B body.

If you use the shower drain grill template, you create a semi- stealth installation.

Speakers do not have to be big anymore to sound good.
Personally, I would not hurt the strength/integrity of the door frame.
Just my 2 cents.

All four panels in my Barracuda had speakers when I got it.
Because they sounded so good and looked awesome, I filed these in the big dark green cabinet that rolls by once a week....………..

Did your car have the option of dual front speakers in the dash? If not, they make a dual speaker that goes in the single location.

not much stereo separation with that.

About 90% of the door speaker installations I've seen in classic Mopars caused interference issues between the speaker grill and the window crank.

If you are really concerned with stereo separation, fine, I guess it depends on what you're listening to. But again (my 2 cents) I'm just happy to have a decent sounding. I made this for the dash on my 73. Piece of aluminum and 2 nice speakers from Planet Audio. Works fine for me.

69 here. These tweeters really do the job up front. Not sure what is out back, but they romp.

I have used Under cover 2 speakers that fit under the front seats they sound great. My 73 now has a 12" sub in the trunk with two small Bose speakers under the seat and also sound amazing,

Old photo but these are custom built kick panels for a 71 Charger.
Had to modify the E brake pedal to clear D/S one. Can’t seem to find a photo though.

Giving a light curvature to the mounting plate trying to match the windshield shape will give you a better Stereo "perception"... and if the back side of the speakers get a small wall, larger than the speaker basket case depth between them COULD be even better saving from some small air pressure backpressure between them. This last would be just an experiment if somebody is picky with that

Thanks all! I decided to save the doors, and go with the kick panels for the 5” rounds. The rear won’t be a problem because I won’t need the rear window defroster. And, I have a new 6” oval for the dash, and some more speakers for the rear. I got these tweeters that I’ll mount somewhere upfront and high. They are 1” x 1”, so they won’t be hard to find a place for!

I put mine in my kick panels many, many years ago. Always regretted cutting those holes in the event that someday it wouldn’t be important to me. Well these days it’s not and I think it would be very difficult to replace those maroon colored kicks. I wish I had used the door panels. I probably sound weird but I don’t listen to music very often so I took all the speakers out and wrapped everything in leather. If another owner someday wants to put in a Stereo the holes will be there behind the leather. If I had it to do all over again I would find another option to cutting into either area. Back then I didn’t expect to own the car for 47 years and counting. And back then music was important to me.

I always expect to own my cars forever

I try to do the least damage possible and try to do literal bolt on (and bolt off) mods.

Hence the "buy a spare set of kick panels and paint them if you have to" suggestion.

That will change with my 4 speed conversion.....if I ever get around to it.
