Is Rock 'N' Roll Dead?

My point was, who's making good Rock 'n' Roll today
Absolutely not! Rock n Roll is forever! You have to understand that it is still evolving. There are some excellent newer bands like Alter Bridge which was mentioned. Some of the great masters like Kansas put out a new LP last year. Yes, most of the old bands have lost a member, maybe two. With the newer digital radio stations on the web you can listen all kinds of stuff that is awesome. Just step outside your comfort zone a little and check out some newer variations. I found out about Progressive rock and Symphonic Metal from an insert from an old Kansas CD. There is some stuff I never heard of that is incredible. Go on Youtube and check out Royal Hunt, "Paper Blood", Within Temptation "The Silent Force", Shadow Gallery"Carved in Stone", Symphony X "Iconoclast", Nightwish "Imaginaerium", which is Goth Metal. Don't forget that some albums are timeless like Metallica's "S & M". There is most likely a shitload of stuff from the great masters that was never played on the "Pay for Play" radio stations. I just found there is a Swedish? band I believe called Sabaton who has cannons and tanks & machine guns on stage and each song they record is about a famous battle in history. It is amazing stuff. I have a bunch of stations on Pandora that are great. Take it from me, a 66 year old fart, yer as young as you feel & you ain't heard nuthin yet! Don't even get me started on Classic Country and Motown as well as Classical!
Believe me Aeronet, if you could spend just One day with me, you'd leave smiling and astounded with your ears ringing with new found joy! Just because it ain't played on commercial radio stations, doesn't mean it's not out there. Plus, because it's kind of obscure, it doesn't get air played to death!
Well, that's enough for now. By the way, there is fairly recent thread on here of what are you listening to or something like that with a shitload of good stuff,
(unofficial what are you listening to*) thread in General Discussions started this Feb 14, 2018 by Metaldad. I know, lots of oldies there but also much of which I never heard of either.
All I can say is "LONG LIVE ROCK!"

I feel it’s not dead at all. It’s just evolved from what we grew up with. I often think how my dad thought the 70’s music I was listening to was junk and he thought it was dead then, but it wasn’t. All the Elvis, Beatles Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry (just name a few) still lives on in the music today. Those people inspired generations to get up and write and play music. Certain flavors of music has our ear because that’s what we grew up with.

It was mentioned the industry might be dead..as we knew, yeah, you can hardley find a store that sells cd’s anymore. Definitely not 45’s! Resale stores are popping up in small numbers that sell old vinyl. But, it’s not dead, but is definitely a whole lot different than it used to be. The digital age has changed it forever. There are so many ways to get your music out there compared to it used to be, it’s tough to find that good old rock n roll as we knew it. It’s out there, you just gotta wade through all kinds of stuff. Many good bands have been listed already.

Have no fear though, there has been a movement heading back to those days recording equipment wise anyway. The industry went digital for a long time. The music lost that “warmth” that you get with tape and the old analog equipment. The good thing is they are using the old equipment to get that sound and warmth back and using the toughness and longevity of the digital platforms. No more skips on the old record player! Ruining the record forever. If digital messes up, download it again and good to go.

As a musician, it’s intriguing to see where the industry has been and where it’s going. But the music that we grew up with is still there and always will be!
A classic:

A new band with good rock n roll roots, new flavor.. ok really new flavor but chord structure wise, the same..

So Rock's still alive . Good. I wasn't waxing nostalgic for the old days. I just haven't heard much new stuff on the radio that really got me goin'. The Red Hot Chili Peppers song about a robot was pretty darn good. But the Chili Peppers have been around since the 80s.
I'll check some of the bands people have mention on this thread. Just seems like Hip Hop and Country are what people are mostly listening to these days.
I can't really see Rock 'n' Roll dyin' 'cause it's so elemental.
And honestly, I've been listening to too much talk radio. It's a bad habit I'm gonna break.
Thanks.

Music in mainstream is pop, or urban contemporary. You have country music but they have there own awards ceremony.culture has changed from real musicians playing there own music, to popular nice looking people hand selected to autotune.

Is it dead? Well that depends on who you ask but it is certainly not mainstream like it was in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Imagine Dragons are considered to be the top rock band of today but in my eyes they are just a pop rock band at best. They are not a real hard rock group like Halestorm, Alterbridge, Foo Fighters, etc. Most kids today are big into the rap/hip hop genres and if they do listen to rock, it’s AC/DC, Ozzy and bands from that time.

I hate all modern music. It seems to all involve some sort of rapping with no real musical talent. I am speaking to what is on the radio. There are plenty of great young musicians on the internet. Conversely the music sharing of the web killed the creativity that was sought out by a big recording industry that no longer exists.

its changing for sure some I like and there is some I dont

Sirius XM radio opened my eyes to a whole new plethora of rock and roll that the main stream stations do not seem to play until they hit it big or months after they come out.

Rock 'n' roll has been going downhill ever since Buddy Holly died

Buddy who? I read an interesting article on line about the payola scandle in the 50s and how it affected Rock 'n' Roll. Alan Freed got burned and we were left with Dick Clark for the next fifty years.

Anybody think there are any paralles between NASCAR and Rock 'n' Roll?
