1968 -1969 Roadrunner GTX hoods

What is wrong with Dales comment? We have a problem and need help in figuring out what we need? I don't think we are questioning your knowledge, we are just trying to figure out the parts book. With your good fortune in having those parts in front of you to compare, perhaps you would be so kind as to help us and possibly others, to figure out what is going on??
Dale your last pic on entry #15, I assume is measured from the end of that panel right side, ? . or to the edge of the hood - inside of fender lip. right side?....Mine is measured right side of hole to end of panel. Near side of rectangular hole is 22" and far side is 24" I can't understand why yours is different. Could one of ours have been wrecked and put together with wrong pats???.........................MO
I was measuring from the driver side fender. I have no 68 hood for a reference so that's what i am going off of. Mine was built 8-23-67 and there is no evidence of damage or repair so assuming it's still original.

The design change only pertains to the safety latch, correct? If it were mine, I would eliminate that scalp gouging safety latch and install hood pins.

I think that is right . However, there is also other possible changes to the inner hood structure for functional fresh air intake.......................MO

Update 12 - 2 - 18...I took my grill header panel out today. The person that installed my late 68, 69 AMD Roadrunner hood had cobbled the header panel to make the hood latch down and for the safety catch to catch in the D hole for it. I knew he had tried to move the D hole to the left , but it just barely clears. Needs to be moved further left. I don't know why, but the hood latch that bolts to the header panel does not line up with the two weld nuts . I am not sure what year latch he used. He had drilled two new holes and put bolts and nuts in?????
My conclusion : if you put a late 1968 or 1969 hood on an early 1968, then save headaches and put a late 1968 grille header panel on. 1969 will not work , as the grills mount differently, and there may be other differences.........MO

I discovered when I changed from a 1968 Sport Satellite hood (same as a Satellite) that the plates inside the hood frame that the hood hinges bolt to are welded into place after the hood is aligned on the car (or welded using a jig beforehand). Apparently I went from a set up where the plate was at one extreme in the original hood and the replacement 68 RR hood was welded at the other extreme. The adjustment between the inner fender and the hinge couldn’t make up for the extreme difference, so I had to drill out the spot welds and slide the plate inside the hood frame. The hood frame did have slotted holes, so there was adjustment available at that side after I drilled the spot welds out. Now before I remove the hood again, I will drill and thread new holes for retaining screws to replace the missing spot welds. Otherwise, the plates will slide away and will be a nightmare to get back into the right spot again. Just FYI.

Also, I concur that another big difference is that 1969 hoods are cut out under the inserts which point up, while the 1968s aren’t.

Thanks, I may have the same problem. My new hood had to be mounted with nearly no gap on the drivers side , and a wide gap on the passengers side. I thought he had to mount it that way in order to get the safety catch to go into the header panel D hole. I will check to see if I have the same problem that you did. BTW mine is a 1968 Sport Satellite too.............................MO

So let me see if I understand you correctly - when looking at the car from the front, the gap between the fender edge and hood edge is bigger on one side than the other ?

Yes, just to get it driving for the Summer. Now that I am ready for paint, that will be corrected........MO
