Where is there a reasonable place to have my wheels rechromed near me in Maryland?
thanks

For the cost of that - I just bought new cragars. It was cheaper and didn’t have to worry about the quality of the chrome job

It's not as simple as "replating", the wheel centers have to be separated first and then welded back together after chroming.

I would think that in today's market it would be easier to buy new as far a wheels go.

They are for my Lil Red express that I am restoring and they do not make the wheels any longer. I looked on the Internet, but would like to have some recommendations.
Thanks

Those look so basic, not surprised if no ones making that exact wheel anymore. Don't take that as a dig at your truck in any way. My neighbor had a '78 brand new. I was never impressed with the wheels, but I could certainly could believe that it was indeed the quickest factory vehicle that year, and it certainly had some fat hoops from the factory. Anyway, best of luck, you are probably best off finding someone to replate them for you.

I'm a LRE junky. The wheels make the truck IMO. Best modern alternative is aluminum slots from US Mags. They look pretty close but are not steel obviously. Not sure where in MD you are but next time you get to Harrisburg throw a wheel in the car and stop at LiBrandis right at the Harrisburg airport. I can tell you it will not be cheap or reasonable, that's no matter where you take them. As @Dipstick said wheels are usually chromed then assembled. Take a look at your originals and see if the welds have chrome over them. I was going to get a set done and I guessed it would be close to $2k for a set of 4. If you get the spare done it will be more of course. That was a while ago, $750 a wheel is probably not out of the question.

Pics of your LRE?

Search for a Keystone/LKQ Dealer in your area, Keystone used to be separate but was bought by LKQ a few years back.
Anyhow, Keystone is a body shop vendor and also offers chrome services , for us here in the Midwest the turn around is aprox 90 days give or take. Parts go to Minnesota,

Everything we have set through them has turned out nice, wheels , bumpers, trim ect.

I have an old set of these LRE/Ramcharger wheels also that will need re-chroming someday.

Many of the chrome shops will not do wheels as they fear that the process will weaken the wheel structure and thus they become a liability.

khryslerkid those wheels are very close. Not sure where to get a price? I currently have 8 wheels, but they need to be rechromed. They are all 8" wide. The 78LRE had 7" on the front and 8" on the back. Trying to stay as close to original as possible. I might have to sell some of my B body parts to pay for the wheels!!

@MD Mopar - Check this out, I got LRE parts from here before. He has some 78 wheels but might be a good hookup to get yours done. $1800 with no core is 'reasonable' IMO

This may indeed be his best bet. It says they'll knock some money down/take a partial trade for usable cores, and the OP says hes has extras... It seems to indicate elsewhere on that website the the original wheels were "Western"... Is that a manufacturer, or just a style??? Lefty71

I contacted that website (dodge Connection) and they don't have any in stock at this time. Don't understand how rechroming can weaken the wheel?
Thanks

Curious, are they able to do your wheels for that price?

I didn't ask about that. The shipping back and forth would be very expensive. They indicated about $40.00/wheel one way. That is why I would like to find a local place to rechrome mine at a reasonable price. If there is such a thing as reasonable???

I haven't found anyone that I would consider reasonable. Everyone wants to do triple plate with the worlds best show chrome on everything all the time. It's all labor, nobody works fast and they all get $75+/hr now.

I think the closest chrome shop is probably in Harrisburg. I don't of any in MD, NOVA, or DE. Your right about shipping. Using LiBrandi's saves on all that for me.
