The neutral safety switch on a 727. I screwed it all the way in, till snug not really overnight. What happened was it was very hard to get into and out of drive. Everything else worked ok, but car would crank in drive but other than that everything worked properly
Something is wrong, so i backed out the switch just enough and now it goes in and out of drive fine and will not crank in drive as it should
Is this a normal procedure? I didn't realize the switch needed to be adjusted as so or does it? Thanks for all opinions on this

You put a gasket on neutral safety switch? What year car, because there are single pin 3 pin switches.

Not all neutral safety switches are created equally, especially those made overseas!!!! I had similar problem that you describe when I put a new switch in. As you can see in the photo, original is in the middle, the one that didn't work on the left and the new one that did work on the right. Turns out the one that didn't work the center pin and plastic section and threads were just a bit too long and caused the issue. Check yours along side the original and you may see the same thing.

Doesn't surprise me a bit, most of my headaches are faulty parts!

I'd do as idrivemopar suggested and compare it with the original but my guess is your either missing the gasket or it's a junk part as mentioned.

Left a fat washer off? C’mon, nobody would do that intentionally. Chinese junk is my explanation.

Its junk import part! Has to be. The gasket is on but not touching because the housing of the switch itself is not made up tight. Sure its working properly but it aint right and it has to be right or I'm not happy. The old one had a pin break off and i chucked it. So now looking for a NOS switch.......The car drama never ends!

Steve, just an fyi, the one I got that worked was from Autozone, the one that didn't work was from Napa.

Single pin switches are repo-ed. The 3 pin don't know if mopar. There's a single pin repo for $69.95 on ebay search mopar neutral safety switch. Not mine. Think I have a 3 pin, if interest pm me.

Yikes, the NOS single threaded stud switch is priced at $99.99
I'd like to have it but I'm too fugal to pay that amount.

Sold a single pin on ebay for $60, buyer put it on ebay for $90. Sold my last extra to a FBBO member $40.

At least you were fair in your pricing of the switches you sold and weren't out to ream someone.

The switch in my '68 was leaking a few years ago, and I could not find a replacement around here. The switch was operating okay but a bit leaky. With some manipulating of the shell, some cleaner, silicone, and a little more working of the shell I was able to get it to seal. It's still leak free.
But at the time would have been happy to pay 40 or 50 bucks for a new one.

I have a couple nos single pin ones I would let go of.
the box says:replaces 2495537. The switch itself is stamped MoPar and 2496133.
50 shipped.
Send a PM if interested.

IF it has the form fitting beveled rubber gasket on it shouldn't need to use tape unless the nos gasket on yours is hard as a rock.

Got my neutral safety switch out and measured it. It is dead..

I have the single wire neutral safety switch. My trans is from ‘69, shouldn’t it be the 2- or 3-pin switch to be correct?

Car is from 68 with the backlight switch on the steering column.
