Trying to put a longstanding question to rest. Joined the forums a week or so ago to aid in my 69' Charger rebuild. Trying to find out the status or whereabouts of a 1971 Roadrunner I owned for a few years in the late 90's.
Stationed at NAS Lemoore, California, I was given short-notice orders to report to Beaufort, S.C. for deployment to Kosovo. Had to put the car in outdoor storage. Paid the storage folks for an up front years worth of time on their lot. Provided all contact info, addresses, phone numbers where I could be reached. Headed off overseas content that the Roadrunner would be secure.
Received a letter (conveniently) 8 months later indicating that the storage folks had:
1. raised their prices....
2. attempted to contact me numerous times without success.....
3. my years worth of payment had no longer covered the car......
4. and they had sold it for the balance owed ($200)
So.......you can see how this played out. They managed to get a letter to me "after the fact" and of course hid behind the legalities of their storage contract allowing them to sell off goods as they saw fit in exchange for back fees owed. I suspect a local fellow who was chums with the storage lot folks said "I sure would love to take that car off your hands".... and the storage folks made it happen. Can I prove it? No sir, I cannot.
Anyway, I do not have the VIN. Car was Citron Yella original paint that was pretty old and shabby looking, the top was painted pisscan paint flat black with a little bit of a Starsky and Hutch forward arrow/point that came forward onto the top of the door from the rear trunk deck, and the motor was not in the car. The car would have moved off the lot in 1999-2000. I am assuming it would have been seen/worked on in the Hanford/Visalia/Fresno area shortly thereafter.
I have no legal claim to the car, so I'm not looking to start any brawls or anything....I'd just like to know the car wasn't crushed or some other such nonsense.
