Alright all my parents own a 1973 Dodge Charger, it has sat at least 5 years and he is wanting to sell it. I am going to buy it off him and it is gonna need a few things. Firstly I want to decode the fender tag properly and I’m not sure my 1994 govier book is very accurate....

what else do you want to know?

Decode looks good.

Pics would help.

Yay, another 73!

I just wanted confirmation that my 25 year old book was correct.

What are you wanting pics of?

Not at all pretty right now.

thank you, looks like a great project.

It has an engine starting/running issue. On occasion it will start and run then once shut off it will only crank and will not fire. It has a replacement coil, ballast resistor has been replaced multiple times, I think the ignition box has been replaced but I can’t confirm it. I am 85% sure it’s an ignition issue not a fuel issue, I’m starting to lean toward distributor being junk or something similar. Any ideas where to start would be appreciated.

Whoa! The sitting around is giving the car a hammering! What’s the price tag? What engine & trans?

Well considering it spoken for there is no price tag. The body looked little better than its current state when it arrived from California which my parents were aware of, the plan was to return it to its original color as my parents had one similar when I was a kid. 318/727/8.75

Awesome....another 3rd gen being saved.

Is that a Mr. Gasket rachet shifter?
I don’t recall the brand, but it is a ratchet shift. It’s been a long time since I sat in the car, my goal was to get it running yesterday but things didn’t allow for that to happen so I snagged the battery and the fender plate, snapped some pics and left. I’m hoping it’s in my possession before spring hits Indiana. I want to do the power tour this year and if I can get it running I may take it over my 1972 Demon.

If it were mr. Gasket it is usually inscribed on the shifter handle. Cool regardless of brand. I had one in my 73 roadrunner back in the day.

G3G is 318/1973/St Louis plant. The rest looks fairly accurate.

Beautiful car (once you wash it). I had an ignition box issue that did what you describe a long time ago....when the box got hot, the car wouldn't start. When I looked at the back of the ignition box, it looked like it was partially melted. There are a lot of other things to check though.

What else would you suggest I check?
