Came across this pix tonite. Thought I would post it.
1966, ready to go Match Racing at all of the little known, not famous, drag strips around Central and Southern Illinois, Eastern Missouri, Southern Indiana.
No, I was NOT Match Racing Dick Landy, Sox & Martin, Bill Jenkins, etc, etc, but when I did pull up to the starting lines at those drag strips many times it was the first time that those spectators got to see a couple of Altered Wheel Base, Nitro Burning Funny Cars go at it. (LOL)
It was 100% Run What You Brung and we got paid around 250 bucks for a 2 out of 3 Match Race, win or lose. Gas for the tow vehicle (my 1965 Chevy 1/2 ton) was 25 cents a gallon so the $250 was great money. The Nitromethane was our biggest cost and I think it was around $1 a gallon. I bought it in 55 gallon drums.
I wish I could go back in time.

Very cool Mike! Remember those days when Dad took us to National Trail Raceway and Hyde Park when we were kids. Thanks for sharing.

Ahhha,The old days !
What the heck you doing up at 2:13 AM anyway ?

I remember, my first model car was a 1965 Altered Wheel Base Dodge Coronet. Thanks for the trip back!!

Back in the days when people were clean cut, disciplined, and had manners!

My computer must be off or it has dyslexia like me.

you looked like a Dapper Dan :lowdown:, suit & all, nice style :thumbsup:

:thankyou: cool old photo Mike

Sweet machine Mike, did you hit those back rollers on the ground often?
Did you remove rear bumper for clearance?

Man o man!! Took some pics back then but didn't have anything of mine that were worth taking pics of lol.

There was a guy out here, professional photographer
always at the track selling shots of cars
IIRC Jim or Tim Burke (spelling)
Jamie Jackson too IIRC
mostly at either Fremont, Sacramento or Sears Point
unfortunately;
I rarely bought any,
I even more rarely, that I took any on my own
usually the ones I did take, were Polaroids &
they don't convert to digital very well either
{what can I say I'm not a camera guy or a photographer}
I was always in the car or working on them...

I don't have many especially from my early days/years
1974-75 to 1985-ish
& I regret it every day now
