Who has MOVED from their home state ? How difficult was it for you?

Strange diversion from moving East and getting probed,,,

Good health outranks everything else. Hospital rooms look the same no matter where you move. A colonoscopy is a great preventative measure to take.

Or, you can be like someone I know. He delayed and delayed. Finally, he went in...too late. He led a miserable existence for 13 years at home and then went to the hospital and died.

If I was to move from my home/native state,
I'd consider St. George southern Utah or
even Scottsdale wouldn't be a bad place,
but Scottsdale is pricey, but upon the list
(compared to or more expensive than St. George)
& I have friends in both places...

I have deep roots here, I was born & raised here,
I have moved a few times, usually about work, chasing the $$$$
& lived in Idaho, Oregon (school), Kansas & Alaska too,
all for short stints, I always came back...
I loved Alaska, I hated the long winters & mosquitoes...
I do love winter sports & skiing, hunting, shooting, fishing etc....

But;
In my case...
My family all mostly lives here still
& my dad lives with me, I'd have to consider that too
the kids, that's a big freaken' deal right there,
(unless; if you have no kids or young kids in tow, it's different situations)
Most all my brothers & sisters, my aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,
most all my friends & serious contacts, business, income, is here...

I also own all my stuff, cars, trucks, houses, outright too,
no payments, other than property & income taxes
& typical monthly stuff , that makes it a bit easier...
over my 59 years here

Everyone needs to make that decision where they need to be
"on their own accord", for their own reasoning...
Mine &/or yours (or theirs) probably aren't the same...

You can't beat California weather, it's not a fair comparison...

I've been to almost all the states in my travels
(not to Maine or Vermont, too cold in the winter for me anyway)
I'm a ocean & mountains guy, I love the outdoors,
I love rural areas more now, wouldn't consider living in a city anymore...
I'm still interested in racing, cruising, trucks & cars, open areas...
I want to be in a car culture area no matter where I live...
I don't mind a little change of seasons, I have all of it now...

I know I'm not big on snow shoveling or long cold winters,
or short or "humid as hell" sweltering summers (south or east),
or where they have all them freaken' bugs galore...
I know for me I'm not that type of guy...

That's partially why I listed the 2 places above,
it's a good compromise...
"albeit Scottsdale" is hotter than bloody Hell in the summer
but golf, A/C & a car culture, esthetics, nice cumminity all helps to make up
for "some of that"...

I do know I'd never live east of the Mississippi
(too damn many people)
just not my type of climate or places,
albeit some really nice rural areas, especially in the south...
They have some great people, down there...
Not a fan of the North at all...

Been back & forth across the country in a truck & trailer some 30+ times...
Seen most the country at it's best & worst...

Good luck
where ever you decide to go Greg @Kern Dog
do your due diligence 1st, not all areas are equal, even on the surface
in politics/taxes or property taxes, expenses/costs etc., best bang for your buck
or weather, let alone community essentials, hospitals or shopping...

I have to go in for one. My wife's dad just had one before Xmas they removed a couple polyps. 4 days later he was sleeping on the couch and woke up in a puddle of blood that came from u know where. Its hard to go in after hearing about that but I will. At least it cleared up without more invasion.

Crazy how this thread has taken such a turn from its original subject.

For the naysayers regarding colonoscopy think of the alternative. Colon cancer is no fun and is fatal. Had two friends that passed from colon cancer. The last two years of their life’s were miserable.

It seems that DeltaV has the hots for KD's colon, he's been hammering him on it in another thread. Check your 6 boys!

The Wife and I told the family here the other night. Father in Law thinks we will not go through with it.
He did...In 1991 he and the Mrs left Michigan for Arizona when he was older than we are. Who knows for sure. We are not in a dire position. We can afford to stay even with the reduced income of the Pension VS the wages I currently earn. I just see the chance to get far more space around me to play for LESS money per month, among other possible advantages.

You surely have the time in your favor in terms of making a decision.

73Hillary can never chime in without being a worthless pain in the ***. I do not recall ever reading two posts in a row that were helpful to anyone.

Corn Dog,
Sit down and relax take it easy. Just watch out for your stick. You may not want to break it off.

Been thinking about North Carolina & Florida as a good landing Spot.

Just made the Move from MD to Virginia. My Job has an office in Richmond and it recently suffered a loss of (2) outside sales guys. I was looking at moving South when I retire anyway. Our kids are out on their own with the exception of my son who will be 21 in Feb and is staying back in MD with relatives till he finishes his Electrical Apprenticeship. He has a 4yr deal and is in his 3rd now. He wants to move South as well once he gets his credentials as a Journeyman Electrician. We have attended a few shows in NC and he has come to like the people much more than the ones in MD, haha.
I have lived in MD all my life and always wanted to pick-up and move. Finally we had the chance and the Wife was looking forward to the change as well. Love it already as the people are way more friendlier then I expected. We are renting currently and all my mopar parts and garage stuff are held up in a storage garage here on the Apt property which is cool. We will look for a place to call permanent home while renting, and seems alot easier with no pressure.

The Wife and I are still thinking about moving. A FBBO member wrote this:

"Just pulled the trigger on a place in Oklahoma. I think you will find some of the best overall values there. Winters ave daytime temp 50+ and no snow. Looked all over the mid south from Tennessee to east Texas. Figured no state income tax wouldn't be as important as low property taxes in our retirement years. VERY, VERY rural but I wouldn't rule out southeastern OK in your search."

I did not think of Oklahoma but I will. I was there in the Army in 1984. Fort Sill, Lawton OK. The army base did have a lot of trees. Trees and hills are important to me, I like that.

If he dies from colon cancer, then I become the new grammar and spelling Nazi; and nobody wants that!

So Kerndog, Ft Sill, were you a Canon cocker?

California has high taxes but low debt. To me, that is pretty damn spectacular with all the money it costs to fight fires out there. Maybe the rest of the country should care about that instead of pushing it off on our future ancestors.
Do NOT believe what you read or hear about "Low debt" in California. There is a HUGE ticking clock in regards to the UNfunded CalPers and CalSters public employee pensions. The state promised far more than they will be able to deliver. Of course their "Fix" will be higher taxes...Property taxes, income taxes, utility taxes, etc. All of this additional burden to pay for mistakes that I never made.

I was actually signed up to be an Airborne "Cannon Crewman" but was discharged before going to jump school in Ft Benning GA. Problems with My ears.....Medical disability discharge.
