73/74 RoadRunner rear bumper

What has everyone done if you want to remove the rear bumper cushions? There are two holes with one being elongated and the other slightly oval. I would love to ditch the pads but I really don't like the holes. *I am also having the bumper re-chromed.

I believe they can fill the holes during the rechroming process.

I would have been looking to do the same thing had the guy I bought my car from not already done it; on front and back! He just installed chrome bumper bolts in the empty holes. Works for me. Some guys have the holes welded closed and ground smooth before a re-chrome job. I will attach a couple pictures which are jpegs so you can zoom in some. The heads don't (completely) cover the elongated holes but it's close enough for me. Maybe you can find a slightly larger head bolt to help that, however the bumper is slightly curved at that point.

If you have an ace hardware they sell chrome carriage bolts that will fit and they are fairly short, so an easy modification to perform.
