a question for a wiring harness aficionado, wiper washer pump wiring, 3 speed wiper motor?

So I've unwrapped and now restoring my 68 'X dash wire harness with fresh wires from a donor harness. I've been perplexed by the 4 brown wires near the ignition switch / wiper switch / washer switch.

So I explored some and found that 2 of the 4 brown wires in question (some with white stripes) were simply a short jumper wire but all wrapped up in the harness at that same point.

Two of the Br wires are clearly for the washer motor/switch, but still don't understand what the short jumper was for?

What am I missing, is this for a 3 speed wiper motor.

See pix below showing the short jump pulled from the harness!

Check your wiring diagram. OK, here's a "guess".....there's a wire that goes between the windshield washer & the wiper switch so the wipers turn on when you push the washer button????

The wiper washer switch has two terminals. One feeds the washer reservoir/pump, and the second terminal is fed by the 3 speed wiper switch; using jumper wire.

OK that all makes sense. Thanks.

I was confused by the "resistance wire" that is strung thru the harness for the 3-speed motor. (I have a 2-speed)

I could be wrong but I believe the wiper switch for 3 speed has a resistor built onto it.

Yes the resistor is mounted to the switch.. you can just see it (tan block) on my wiper switch on the right of this picture.

Agreed, my 3-speed wiper motor switch has a resistor hanging off the side of it and the 1969 'X matching wire harness ALSO has the resistance wire buried in the harness. What I don't know is if both the resistor on the 69 3-speed switch AND the resistor wire in the harness were BOTH used? Interesting point / question? I haven't checked the pin connections of the resistor attached to the switch. Also the '68 'X wire harness with the 2-speed wiper motor has the resistor wire but it remains unused in the 2 speed application. Seems weird that the wire harness and switch would be equipped with "redundant" resistors for the 3-speed application.
