I was told my 62 had a 360 in it, instead of the 361. got down and dirty and
located the block numbers: it is a 318. checked the date: 69.
rear diff: 8 3/4. have NOT taken it out yet as I still do not have insurance on
it (and today all were closed), nor have I got a Florida Title and Tag yet.
Tomorrow is the plan.
I suppose whomever "built" the engine up was possibly confused, as the
engine number is: 2536080 - 318 - 12
maybe he thought the "360" was the engine??
do not know who did the work; bought it from a Dealer in North Georgia.
everything looks great and the work was 'professionally' finished.
stay safe.
thanks

Well since you are new, most dealers don't even know what a 361 is. A poly 318 is way different than a LA 318. And a 360 looks allot like a LA 318. But a 361 is whole other ball game. Show us some photos and we can help you out.

And since this is in the Welcome Wagon........I'm not sure just what you are axkin. Welcome to the site but do I need to move this to a tech forum?

I'm not sure what the big deal is really. 273 318 340 360 , they are all lame small blocks anyway LOL

Put a trans in the 79 Fifth Avenue. Picked it up, started it, and it vibrated like hell. Trans guy says, yep has a hell of a miss. It purred like a kitten when I dropped it off. Guy says, “it’s a 318 right? Nope. 360!

Geez..... I bought a "340" engine when I was a teenager only to find out it was a 318 with 340/360 heads on it. I feel your pain.

My first engine to buy was a 383 but it turned out to be a 426 Hemi :D JK JK. It was actually a 361 and that is when I learned where the numbers were! However, I did sell a 318 that was most likely a 273 that was in a 67 Dart. That happened a few years after the 361 deal and didn't know where the ID numbers were on small blocks. The guy that bought it never contacted me about so, maybe it was a 318 but from what I understand, 67 Darts usually came with 273's....?

Still, Looks like a very cool 62. Enjoy this site, and the car !

The Darts standard engine was the /6 followed by the 273 unless it was a discontinued engine for that year making the 318 the standard V8.

Incorrect..... but correct. Minor differences between them are a give away if your sharp otherwise drivers side of the engine block are the displacement numerals.
Larger main journal on the 360, 340 & the 360 have different driverside engine mounting bracket locations, cylinder sleeves vary for the given displacement.
Nit picking ?

Only if your a big block guy. LOL

CARTY ON!

a 360 is a Small Block platform, either 5.9lt/Magnum or LA
a 361 is a Big Block B-series Low-deck Wedge platform
huge differences

welcome to FBBO, from NorCal Sierras

CARRY ON!
just kidding on the "lame" part lol
I have a teener myself and a couple 440's

Nothing wrong with any small block. Most were very dependable and won't have any problems passing slower traffic.

Post some pictures when you figure it out, you old grouch!

Welcome aboard!
318s ROCK!

Don't get discuraged 318's a great motors and in that little car it will be plenty! I've gotten 318's that were supposed to be 360's and opps, usually if it's being built with a small block hp isn't a huge factor I'm building as a driver ! 360's are kinda a pain in the butt anyways the oil pans are different and a few other things . You can't rebuild a 318 and mustami it as a 360 the gaskets are different!

Dealers lie !
