I would bet the exhaust system is hurting you A LOT

I went with the springs that came with the heads this year. Last year I used the springs that comp recommended and it was rewing to 6000rpm easy and pulled strong (452 ported iron heads).
When I compared the pressures rates of the springs that came with the edelbrock heads, I saw that they where not that different from the comp springs.
But I think I will change back to the comp springs later on. Springs might be the problem.

As for the exhaust, I do have cut outs in my garage.

Really like the Scat Pack cars.

Last year I used the springs that comp recommended and it was rewing to 6000rpm easy and pulled strong (452 ported iron heads).
Same heads I have, but I don't believe mine are ported-no visible evidence AFAIK.
My CompCams springs made the SAME improvement!

Results of my fist time ever taking a car down the drag strip. Still trying to learn how to 60' the car. Hoping for lower 12s with the current combination. Car could definitely use more rear gear. Drove half an hour to the track on 93, raced, and drove home no problems. Happy with the result for first time out!

500 cubic in 440 stroker
Weiand tunnel ram
Dual Holley 600 carbs
906 Cast iron cylinder heads
Hooker long tube headers
Full 3" exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers

8 3/4 Sure Grip with 3.23 gears
275 60/r15 Nitto nt555r drag radial

Best E.T.: 12.46

I would put a set of 3.55 rear gears in.
Much more than that you wont be highway friendly. With 4.10 in my car I'm running 3200 RPM @ 55 MPH with the same size tire. Luckily my car is stored less than a mile from the strip.

I would put a set of 3.55 rear gears in
With the stock 3.54 gears I had in my Dana 60 I used to turn 3,500 at 75 mph.
Still had room in 4th through the 1320 with a 6,200 RPM redline, but was "into" 4th far enough before the finish line so it wasn't a problem.
After I installed my Passon Performance a855 5 speed w/the .70 5th gear I went with 4.10 ring and pinion gears. Now I turn 2,750 at 75 and hit 4th before the 1/8th mile but don't hit redline before the finish line in 4th gear. Best of both worlds.
Since I spend most of my time driving outside of track days, I would have stayed with the 3.54 gears if not for the 5 speed.

1968 Plymouth Satellite
Re-ringed std bore 1968 440, 346 heads with a NAPA type valve job and a set of decent springs. Crower 271Hdp cam, stock rockers. Original Torker with a 780vs Holley and 1” open spacer, 1-3/4” headers, moroso underdrive pulley.

3570lb race weight, full interior, factory 11” converter, 4.10’s, 10.5x29.5 bias slicks, old SS springs(installed in 1984).

60’ in the 1.70’s, best run 12.12@112.

Prior to that I had a std Performer on the motor and a stock lower pulley.
That ran consistent 12.40’s@110.

Shifted it at 5K, and it went through the lights at about 53-5400.

I ran it one time with the street tires on the back, which were tractionless hockey pucks(Dean brand “Stinger” L60-15’s), which I got to go like 12.80’s feathering it off the line.
Only went about 107 with the shorter tires....... motor wouldn’t really pull past 5500.

After I get my Promax modded Holley 3x2 bbl carbs running decently, I just got the Innovative Motorsports dual wideband O2 system. Between the new tuning tool I will have with the O2 sensors and the data that provides, and my Viking double adjustable front shocks that I haven't had any track time to even know how to adjust them, and the line lock I have yet to install, :blah:
I'm confident if I can get a handle on traction and more track time, solid 12s should await me.:moparsmiley:
