new booster...but no power

Under dash a u-joint with black electrical tape to keep it from flopping around long 12" extension works well.

so.... have ordered a new brake booster. now gotta figure out how to put it on... hee hee.
under the dash and over the firewall I goes...… stay safe
thanks
See franblacker's post. For boosters, there's only 4 nuts holding it in & the top 2 are the tough ones. I hope you only have to use Fran's taped swivel approach. I had to pull my dash out & use a VERY long extension to get my top 2 booster nuts, so hopefully yours is easier.

I don't understand buying new parts before knowing for sure the part you're replacing is actually bad.

You haven't mentioned anything about the engine.

Does it have a performance cam in it?

If so, that might be the issue as in not enough vacuum to operate power brakes.

Will probably need a deep socket.

I bought a new booster (I think from pirate jack if I recall). It did not seem to work well but one simple trick worked great. The vacuum hose from the carb had enough vacuum, but was connected into the booster by a plastic reducer that made the vacuum pass into the booster at about 3/8" diameter. I took the 50 cent plastic reducer off and the larger diameter vacuum hose fit nice and snug into the booster without any fastener and stays put just fine. Huge difference in booster performance and I can actually now 'feel' what the booster is actually doing. Try that first before you herniate a disc under the dash or buy new components. Just my 2 cents. Give us a shout once you figure it out.

I'm missing one of the 4 bolts on the firewall that at this point holds the master cylinder on... so I hope that is easy to fix and find...gulp

I, too, am looking to convert to power brakes from manual ASAP, but due to a built up engine there is concern of enough vacuum to run the system. A Bosch vacuum tester was like $20 so the first thing we will soon do is determine if there is enough vacuum in the first place. They said if that fails, and people have their heart set on power brakes, Wildwood and a few others make hydro boosted brakes, the idea is it uses the fluid from a power steering system if you have one, rather then the vacuum off the motor. I have not looked into how all that works, but I verified they exist

correct. no air in those dumb dirtyword lines. supposed to get my new Booster today...then the fun begins! stay safe. thanks
