Just a warning to my fellow FBBO members. I have a set of Summit Racing brand 8mm silicone suppression plug wires that are 2-3 yrs. old with maybe 500 miles on them.

I'm doing a tune up & found 2 wires' outer coating split! One wire about 6" long split and another wire maybe 10" long split. These wires are nowhere near the headers. I'm very disappointed with the quality. They did fit well, but who cares if they only last 500 miles!

Never tried the Firecore wires, but have heard a lot of good reviews about them. Love their distributors though.
Summit customer service is second to none imo. Give them a call, I wouldn't doubt they will make things right with you.

After 2 years I'n not too sure they will do anything other than offer a discount on a new set.As with any replacement part,,,,,,get the best you can!!

Well that's disappointing.

If it were me, I would call Summit and ask them if they had a bad batch of wires. If they did, and you don't want another set, maybe they would at least give you a store credit.

It certainly doesn't hurt to ask. I have had exceptional results dealing with their CS.

I took a look at the firecore wires online. They all appear to be 45-degree angled plug ends & I need a combination of straight & 90-degree. I have to say that the Summit wires (in their defense) did have the right combination to get around my headers.

Geez....I'm not "flush with cash" right now, so I may have to buy some "universal" 8mm wires & rob some plug ends of the Summit wires.

Anyone have other "reasonably priced" 8mm suppression wire recommendations?

THANKS EVERYONE!

Call Rick and let him know what cylinders you want what boots on.
I’ve got firecore wires on all my stuff.

I’m an MSD man myself......
Taylor for me, I bought MSD once and they wouldn't quit coming off! They were the ones where you could bend the boot to fit your needs.

I just bought a set of Summit wires for dad's truck, quality looked excellent, guess I'll see.

Firecore will put on whatever type of boot you want, on either end...just be prepared they'll run you $150+. Everyone loves them but I just haven't been able to shell out that much for wires. I've had good results with Taylors, that check out to 40-50 ohms/foot. Last set I bought was $70 off Amazon, cut 'em myself for the perfect fit..

I always buy the ones you have to put together yourself too, that's the only way to go if your really picky.

I’ve heard that the Firecores are very good. I’ve had a set of Taylor’s on my 65 for 10+ years, still look like new.

I have a set of summit universal wires. Mine did not split lengthwise along the wire like yours, but had 1 or 2 split around the wire. The msd I had before are better quality, they are more flexible and handle sharp bends. I replaced one or 2 of mine with my old msd ones.

I have had mine a few years, 3-4000 miles I think they'll be ok for a while yet but I do have to be more gentle with them. They are much cheaper than the msd wires. When I do it again I'll go msd universal.
So yes I agree with you generally, but it does sound like yours are worse than mine, maybe there is a quality issue, splitting lengthwise seems funny to me, even if they got hot, which they have not. I'm guessing they dont look burned either.

I have to give another recommendation for Firecore. I tried Taylor and they were waaaay too long. I had a Summit brand and they would not stay on. Went Firecore, with specified straight and angled plug boots and a HEI style cap with male ends. Built to length and holding up great. No issue with them popping off at all.

I ordered the MSD plug wire 8.5’s in red from Summit yesterday. They arrived today!

I've got Taylor 8 mm wires on my Roadrunner for 10 years no problem at all
