Hello all,

Got a question on how to fasten the quarter interior fuzzies/felts to the (metal) interior panel. This is a '68 hardtop Coronet. I have the new felts that came with some heavy gauge staples. I see the strip is already partially perforated for the staples, and there are still holes in the interior finish panel where the originals were stapled.

I am bit puzzled as to how these install. Do you drive the staple through the "fuzzy" side of the strip into the finish panel (and then fold over)? Or is there a better way?

Thanks!

The factory ones in 67 (assume for many years) were stapled with a large gauge mechanical stapler. What we normally do is use a very small flat head Phillips screw and put it in. I have never even heard of whiskers with staples, and no wonder idea how you’d apply them. Just make sure the screws are as flush as possible so as not to score your glass or impede the window.

Mine were from Topcat. I used the drill and bend install method. It takes a little time but they are invisible. I drilled the holes in the groove to recess them. Use lots of clamps!

I have used 1/8” pop rivets before, dab a little black paint on the heads, nobody has ever noticed. A lot easier than staples.

Charger Dana, I have sent you a private message.

Make sure you go back and check the panel for straightness after you remove the old felts.

This video on splash shields has a few interesting tips on staple removal and installation. The "easy way" is at the 10:13 point in the video where he makes the staples from a roll of heavy gauge wire.
