My father has an old John Deere Tractor and the injector pump has gone bad.

Has anyone ever rebuilt one?
Does it require any special tools?
Anyone know of a source where I could buy one at a fair price?

Locally I've been given a price of $600.00 to rebuild....may be a fair price or not?
Reason for asking...the tractor is probably worth $2,000.00 running.

Here's a photo of the pump....Thanks...

Call up Scheid Diesel in Terre Haute, Indiana. They can give you a solid estimate and advice. Unless you have training and a test stand, best leave it alone. Do find TDC on the flywheel before removing. Good luck

Thank you for responding....
Special tools?
A very very clean work environment. Complete cleaning of parts and do not touch any thing with bare hands after cleaning. If the above can not be accomplished forget it and have someone do it that can.

The clean environment is a must ! There not hard to rebuild I've never done that particular one but there all the same I've never needed a special tool (except for the Japanese hatachi motor s) and with that we made what we needed !
Just take pictures/video why you take apart so you remember where everything gos !
Good luck .

We used to store the injector plungers in ice cube trays stored in a refrigerator until ready to install. When ready to install remove them from the tray with large tweezers and drop them in the proper hole. It helps increase the clearance and make them easier to install.

They usually put them on a special flow machine
To adjust and check them after rebuild
If that is included with the rebuild 600 is OK price

Whats the tractor model?

Delphi are decent pumps. Ive several tractors with them

This place has been advertising in Antique Power
magazine for years. Many of the restorers send their pumps in to this place.

Thanks everyone for the replies....I'm having the pump done here in my home town. Outfit has a good reputation, local and price is in line.

also the tractor is worth Nothing not running

Just had one rebuilt for our Ford. I think it was $195 to do it. Local old guy does it. Then he proceeded to tell me to advance the timing when I installed it and it would run like a champ. Tractor never ran like it does now!
