I am about to pull transmission and not engine, starting other prep for it and looks like the transmission width may not fit past headers and I may need to remove one. Is this necessary or will it just fit? Its in 69 charger.

I've never run TTI's but I've had it both ways. "Sometimes" I have to loosen (not remove) one header. Maybe just be prepared to loosen the easiest side (passenger likely) if you have to. I don't see any reason to take it completely off, just far enough you can get a new gasket in there.

When removing my 727 with Dougs headers, I loosened the drivers side to make enough room for the bell housing to pass through. Of course you'll have to remove the exhaust attached. If you tear the gasket you might as well tie it up out of the way. Then you'll have to replace with a new gasket. Don't forget to use new sealer on any bolts or studs that come out of the head.

You are talking about an automatic trans?

It is a 727. I will lower it on trans jack and see how close it is, if I have to I will loosen passenger header as recommended. I should be to that point this afternoon.

Thanks to all who replied.

I had the 727 out of my 67 Belvedere a few times. Came out OK without doing anything with the headers. TTI headers. Done it with a lift and a transmission jack.

Well definetly need to loosen a header, or so I thought. Unfortunatly loosening the drivers didnt do it it was to close to torsion bar so loosening it isnt enough. Tomorrow I will drain coolant and remove bolts on drivers side.

I have TTI exhaust but not headers. To remove my 727 I had to loosen them at the manifolds, lower the pipes and move the trans back over the top of the H-pipe, pull the converter, tilt the nose way down and move the transmission forward as I dropped the input shaft to miss the oil pan until the tail would clear the H-pipe.
