WARNING: DRIVING ON OLD TIRES

Put old tires on for the winter so it wouldn't sit on the race tires. Took it around the block when I got the car out of the race trailer. Right front went flat at the end of second gear and this is what I have now. Old tires! "Don't take the chance" Owned this car since the 70's. Lost it in 2017.

Sorry for your loss. I once owned a '70 Duster 340. Miss it to this day.

Let me guess. The right front tire went, pulling the car to the right side of the road and striking something. Car then rotated clockwise and struck large tree or pole with the left rear.
Your close, Hit a post office mailbox and then a big pole. Friday evening. There was mail everywhere. Like its raining mail. concrete mail box base took out the whole undercarraige including K-member and Headers. Motor trans and rear were ok. Saved both doors and one fender and the wing. Thats it everything else was garbage including the scoop. The rear seat and rear door panels were junk as was the dash and tuff wheel. Cal-tracs , mono-leafs and fuel tank and rear shocks are also scrap metal.

Good news is that you hit the pole with the left rear and not the driver door.

Still resulted in broken ribs from the cage. But if it were not for the cage it would have ripped the car in half. Rocker panel was split and it buckled the floor.

I know know first hand on the luck of not hitting the door. Here is a picture of my Demon.

I bought a set of Cooper Cobra's the dates on the tires were within 6-8 months but one. It was 5 years old. I told the salesman not that one,he had no idea that tires were dated.Discount Tire.
That b.s.. They know because when you go into Discount tires to get a flat repaired if the tire is pasted 7 years they won't fix it.

Well then he lied to me that he did not know.

I still can’t bring myself to throw away the 13k mile 10 year old original Michelins on the new(er) Challenger. Barely driven. Yes they look like hell. Gonna put Coopers on from tirecrawler in Downey, California online. They will call back with the expiration dates before shipping.

I'm in the same boat. 2011 mustang with just turned 30k miles. Michelin tires shows slight dry rot. Firestone firehawk replacements soon.

hey guys, when I first shared this story about my son and my Cordoba, I did not expect this level of response. Bad things happen to some really cool cars. The American highway is so busy with traffic, we are concerned with just parking our classics at the mall, not to speak of driving in heavy rush hour traffic. Be safety, but enjoy the ride.

Just saw this old post come up again . I got a flat on the way home from Carlisle last summer from a nail and put the spare on guess what it blew out about 1/2 hour later it was old and never used .
We were safe but check your spares boys cheap insurance .

When I sold my wife's 'cuda a few years back, the dude who bought it left and didn't make it more than a few miles before he blew out a back tire and ran off in the ditch. The tires were only four years old and since he was out of earshot so I can't say he didn't stop and do a burnout at some point or if the tire just decided to say **** it, but either way I still felt bad for him so I loaded it on a trailer for him and hauled it an hour and a half to his house. He got lucky and it didn't tear anything up. Just got it good and dirty and the tire rubbed the paint behind the back wheel.... I hated it for him but was immediately concerned as soon as he paid, started backing out of the driveway right into oncoming traffic that had to jam the brakes and honk. So he had a near miss in a matter of feet and ditched it within a few miles. Poor car. I feel bad I sold that one. No telling what it looks like now.

Perhaps it was a blessing with an incident at low speed, the tire may have failed at 80MPH. Now just imagine the results.
